Metaphor ReFantazio is a new game from Studio Zero, available on PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. It is set in a fantasy medieval world, where you play as a magic-wielding protagonist, on a quest to save his childhood friend, the price of Euchronia. It proved immensely popular since day one, selling one million copies on the day of release. However, gamers reported that it has inconsistent frame rates, averaging about 40FPS, and only sometimes managing to hit 60FPS. On a side note, PlayStation 5 Pro has just been released, and over 50 games have received an update, enabling them to fully benefit from PS5 Pro’s features. Metaphor ReFantazio is not one of those games, but, players report that even without the patch, the game runs way better on PlayStation 5 Pro, without any framerate issues.

Digital Foundry Reports PlayStation 5 Pro Game Boost Fixed Metaphor ReFantazio Framerate Issues

Strangely enough, Metaphor ReFantazio is a new game that is playable on all the current-gen consoles, as well as on PS4. That decision is widely debated, with players frustrated with the game being intentionally “worse”, so it can be played on a last-gen console. It had some framerate issues that even PS5 couldn’t fix.

But now, with the release of PS5 Pro, Digital Foundry has done some testing of the popular game, and the results are positive. They say that even without any updates, Metaphor ReFantazio has a consistent 60FPS. This is thanks to PS5 Pro’s Game Boost feature, which “buffs” all older games (mostly those made for PS4), and it looks like it works like a charm for Metaphor.

They say that Metaphor ReFantazio on PS5 is basically locked at 60PFS and is a smooth gaming experience. In the “worst” spots, where the PS5 struggled to keep it at 44FPS, the PS5 Pro does not go below 55FPS, and that is only in the most extreme cases.

Metaphor fans are in for a treat with Sony’s latest console. Fans are positively surprised, saying: “I was curious about this game but avoided it because of the performance and other issues… Good to know.” PlayStation 5 Pro proves to be a great console for a modern gamer, but the steep price tag is deterring a huge chunk of players. We will see how that plays out in the future.
