In Payday 3, your goal is to set up a crew and perform the perfect heist. Get in and out with ease and get rich off of it. However, there are many obstacles along the way, not least of which are the security systems and personnel. The first story mission for the Payday Crew is called No Rest for the Wicked. In this mission, your goal is simple – rob the bank. It doesn’t get more cliche than that, but it’s no easy feat by any means. You can approach this mission through stealth and subterfuge, or go in with guns blazing. There are plenty of hostages that you can take inside the bank, or you can ignore them and go straight for the vault. This walkthrough will teach you everything you need to know about the Payday 3 heist No Rest for the Wicked.

The Goal of ‘No Rest for the Wicked’ Heist

This heist is all about getting into the bank vault and then making it out in one piece with your ill-gotten gains. The mission also features a side-quest of sorts, whose goal is to steal the money from the Executive’s lockbox as well.

The Layout of the Bank

The bank can be roughly divided into several sections. The main hall is on the ground floor is the public area, along with the parking lot to the side of the building. Both provide access to the private areas on the ground floor. These include offices as well as the manager’s office. Positioned centrally, there is a stairwell that leads to the upper floors.

The first floor is split between private and restricted areas. It features a cafeteria, offices, as well as a locked security centre. The main corridor can serve as a balcony with a view of the main hall on the ground floor.

Further up the stairs is the roof exit. The roof can also be accessed with the metal staircase located behind the parking lot. This is where you can find the electricity room, hidden behind a locked door.

Crew Considerations

Your crew loadouts will largely depend on the approach you plan to take when initiating the ‘No Rest for the Wicked’ heist. If you plan to go with the violent route from the start, then gearing towards firefight superiority is the way to go. Consider bringing an Ammo Specialist and a Medic, as the prolonged fights in this mission can become taxing with more and more opponents coming for you.

If you plan for a stealth approach, then bringing an Infiltrator and a Hacker is highly recommended. Having someone with firepower skills as backup is never a bad idea, even during stealth attempts.

Lastly, if you plan to mix it up and use hostages to buy yourself some time, having someone with the Grifter tree will be very beneficial. They can then negotiate and trade hostages for time and resources, while the rest of the crew provides cover and penetrates the vault.

Okay, so you’ve chosen violence. There are two ways that you can take this approach at the beginning. One is to go through the main hall and mask up, sowing panic. This approach pairs well if you plan on taking hostages and trading them for time.

Ingress

However, the main way to play this route is to go to the roof from the parking lot and then mask up. From there, rush down the stairs to the first floor. That is because upon the alarm sounding, the vault goes into lockdown. Then, you will have to use Thermite to bust through the floor/ceiling and into the vault. You’ll get four packs of Thermite (located on the roof and in the parking lot), with the initial one starting the burn, while throwing others on top of it can accelerate the time it takes to get through the floor.

All the while, security and police will spawn, attempting to thwart your progress. They will send in waves of reinforcements, primarily coming from three directions: the ground floor, from the roof, and through the elevator. They will also try to reach the office and activate sprinklers. This slows down the Thermite progress, so you have to manually turn them off to resume.

When the hole has finally burned through jump inside with your crew. Note that upon the vault door opening a timer starts for the dye traps set on money stacks. Divide your crew to disarm them, because if they go off, that money becomes worthless. You have enough time to disarm around 2-4 traps per crew member before the timer runs out. Gather any loose cash that you can along the way.

The Getaway

After getting the cash, it’s time to make your escape. By now, heavily armed and armoured SWAT teams will begin to converge. Your getaway van is coming to the side street away from the bank. Make your way to it and lower the two embankments if they’re raised. You can do that by opening the electricity boxes and disarming them.

Make your stand while waiting for the van, then dump all the money you stole in the back. Note that Dozzers will start spawning along with the SWAT teams. These nasty special enemies will need you to focus fire them to bring them down. You’ll need at least four bags to make the mission a success. With everything ready, step into the escape area to get away.

No Rest for the Wicked – Stealth Walkthrough

Taking the stealthy approach for this heist is more complex and involves more moving parts. However, it also feels more rewarding and bypasses many early engagements, making the escape easier if everything goes to plan. It should be noted that if this approach fails at any part before stealing the money, it turns into a firefight situation and should be played the same way as explained above.

Ingress

To start the stealth heist, head to the main hall and make your way to the double door on the right side. Enter the private area without being seen and close the door behind. Sneak into the copy room on the right and activate the lure. The guard in the hallway will come to investigate, so you can optionally steal the Blue Keycard from him. This grants you access to the security room on the first floor if you plan to hack it.

Continue past the guard to the stairwell and climb to the first floor. Be careful of the two cameras above and to the right. Sneak past them to the office across the way and to the left. The electricity breaker you’re looking for is located there. Pull it and then sneak again to find the guard. He carries the Red Keycard that you’re going to need right away. Steal it and return to the stairwell, then climb up to the roof.

Getting Access to the Vault

There’s a security camera above the roof exit, so sneak past it and around to the other side until you find the utility door. Use the Red Keycard to enter the room and hack the computer to disable the magnetic locks.

After that, sneak back down to the first floor and pull the electricity breaker one more time. Return to the utility room on the roof one more time to get the symbol that disables the lock that leads to the vault.

Now you have two options. You can go to the security room on the first floor (with the Blue Keycard) and disable the cameras. There is a guard inside who you will have to take down though. The other option is to straight back to the the ground floor and head for the vault, but you will need to destroy or hack the vault camera manually then.

Either way, you’ll have to use the symbol you obtained to enter the vault room, and then kidnap the Manager to provide the retinal scan to access the vault itself. The Manager’s office is located across the hallway from the vault room, which is why disabling that camera is so important.

To bypass the guard, you can either use the lure again or take him down and hide the body somewhere where other employees won’t find it. The Manager’s office needs to be lockpicked, then intimidate and tie up the Manager. There’s a safe that you can crack for extra cash, as well as more loose cash scattered around.

Take the Manager to the vault and push him into the retinal scanner. After that, you can enter the vault and disable the dye traps. Divide your crew to disarm them, because if they go off, the money will become worthless. You have enough time to disarm around 2-4 traps per crew member before the timer runs out. Also, gather any loose cash along the way. The alarm will go off, so it’s time to escape.

The Getaway

Unlike the guns-blazing approach, the initial forces showing up will be weaker and less numerous if everything went according to plan. They won’t have time to set up roadblocks, so take the money and head to the street to signal the getaway van. You’ll have to make a stand while waiting for it, however, it’s much easier to fight the security off before the van arrives. Load up the cash – again, a minimum of four bags – and step into the escape area to complete the mission.

Difficulty and Profit

No Rest for the Wicked is a fairly simple mission after you get the hang of it. The multiple approaches that you can take make it fun to replay and try out different strategies. This makes it a great introduction to Payday 3. As with all heists in the game, there are four difficulty levels that you can attempt.

  • Normal: $100,000 – $300,000 profit, the easiest difficulty.
  • Hard: $120,000 – $350,000 profit, the best way to farm it for money and XP.
  • Very Hard: $150,000 – $450,000 profit, the cameras are indestructible, so you have to use hacking for a stealth approach
  • Overkill: $170,000 – $500,000 profit, indestructible cameras, tougher enemies, and very punishing to complete.

Once you have some practice with how to approach this heist, the best way to run it outside of challenges is on Hard difficulty. It provides the best profit and XP in relation to the time and complexity it takes to complete it.
