“Just Get Rid of It Already” Path of Exile 2 Players Share Why Backtracking Is Their Least Favorite Part

Gameplay in Path of Exile 2

We all have different tastes and enjoy different things in life and in games. However, sometimes the whole community agrees on some aspects. This time, the majority of Path of Exile 2 players agreed that the biggest improvement the devs could make to backtracking was to remove it completely. Do you agree?

Backtracking Is Ruining the Game for Some

No matter how good your build is, one thing is for sure, you’ll probably have to backtrack at some point. This has been a problem in the first installment of the game, and though maps are much better in Path of Exile 2 early access, backtracking remains as annoying as ever.

Nickoladze noted: “Yeah every now and then I get an abysmal layout and this happens. It’s pretty rare but it super sucks a** when it does. Personally, I love the huge map layouts and for years have been pretty annoyed by PoE 1’s 2-minute maps where I spend more time managing scarabs and rolling maps than playing the game”.

Another player, kbt, added: “Yeah, I’m not sure what they are thinking on the map designs. I feel like half my brain is running a maze exploration algorithm. It’s a constant mental tax that drags down enjoyment”.

Path of Exile 2 Players Suggest What the Devs Could Change

While the majority of Path of Exile 2 players hope that the devs will completely remove backtracking, some players came up with ideas on how to improve it. They gladly shared those ideas with the community.

As you probably know by now, the latest patch introduced fast-travel to checkpoints. ClashOfClanee suggested: “I know maps don’t have checkpoints. But, what if they added checkpoint scrolls or some s**t. Dropping a temporary checkpoint without the ability to spam it, only one allowed at a time, etc”.

A user named socopithy#7100 posted their take on the Path of Exile forum. According to them, there are several ways the devs could improve backtracking. They listed: “Dynamic Area Changes – If you backtrack into an area you’ve already cleared, add something new. Chance for League Mechanics – Give backtracked areas a chance to trigger a league mechanic. NPC Encounters – Introduce wandering NPCs who could appear in backtracked zones. Fast-Track the Fun – Let us teleport back to critical map points. Reward Exploration, Not Backtracking. Build the Time Sink Differently – If the goal is to “sink” players’ time, at least make it engaging”.

Now, keep in mind that this is still just early access, so the time is right to voice your opinions. You never know, maybe a dev will stumble upon your idea and implement it in the game. So, share your opinions and ideas. And, most importantly, enjoy all the good aspects of the game.
