In Once Human, fishing can provide a brief respite from a chaotic world and a valuable food source. Not to mention that it can be quite relaxing to spend some time near a body of water, and take some time off from collecting Deviants. This mechanic is not essential for surviving in Once Human, but it does offer an easy way to get some free food and maybe more. Stick with us, and we will provide an extensive guide on how to Fish in the game.

Once Human How to Fish Guide

Crafting Everything Needed to Fish

Before players can do some fishing in Once Human, they will need the right tools for the job. Using a Supplies Workbench, players can craft a Fishing Rod for 20 Logs and 10 Copper Ingots. Once a Fishing Rod is crafted, place it in one of the quick bar slots so it’s easier to use. Because we cannot catch fish without bait, that is the next thing we need to craft. Luckily, the first bait that players can craft is Dough Fish Bait and it only takes 1 Corn to make. Alternatively, bait can be bought from an NPC named Margerie located by the pier in Meyer’s Market. With bait and a fishing rod in your inventory, you have everything you need to catch some fish.

How to Fish

Travel to any large body of water in the game and equip a Fishing Rod. Then you will need to select a bait you want to use by holding an “R” button. Once the bait is selected, hold down the left mouse button to aim, and release the button to cast the line.

Now we get to the fun part. In the bottom right part of the HUD, two bars will appear, the top one is a “Hooked-Escape” and the bottom one is a “Break-Slack”. To successfully catch a fish, players have to fill up the top bar while preventing the bottom one from completely depleting.

Once a line is cast, a fishing float will appear in the middle of a HUD. When this starts glowing, players have about 5 seconds to press and hold down the left mouse button. While still holding an LMB, move the mouse to the right or left to move the camera away. To catch a fish, you need to adjust your camera angle until the top (“Hooked-Escape”) bar is filled. Once the bar is filled, a fish is caught, and players can choose to keep or release it.
