Can’t get a hang of fishing in My Time at Sandrock? You’re not alone. We’ll cover everything you need to know about this cultural staple to help you reel in a catch in no time.
There’s a lot to do as you settle into your new job as a Builder in My time at Sandrock. The early game is chock-full of tutorials to help you learn the ropes when it comes to desert living, but not all tasks are easily accomplished. Sandfishing is just one activity that will take a good bit of practice to master. Sandrock is home to very few expert sandfishermen, but Elsie and Owen will take it upon themselves to introduce you to this uniquely difficult sport. Getting started will require a Sandfish Trap and a lot of patience. Here’s a rundown on sandfishing controls and pointers.
How to Sandfish in My Time at Sandrock
To start sandfishing in My Time at Sandrock, all you’ll need is a Sandfish Trap. I suggest adding this item to your quickbar, as you’ll need to hold it to begin fishing at a designated Fishing Spot. The first location you’ll have access to is right next to Eufaula Salvage. Interact with the signpost in front of the sand pit to get started.
Beginners will have the option to scroll through the game’s tutorial for this practice. Although, the instructions provided aren’t so clear once you’re on your own. First and foremost, you’ll want to get your bait ready. This can include sandworms, scorpsters, sandrice, and other goods found in the Quarry.
You’ll find your bait items and gear laid out at the bottom of your screen. Select which item you want to use to entice the sandfish in waiting. I used sandworms, as I had a pretty solid supply at the ready. Give your bait a good throw — and keep an eye on your aim.
A sandfish will soon appear and head for the bait. Quickly switch to your Sandfish Trap while it approaches. Once your target has taken the bait, you’re ready to cast your trap. In most cases, your aim will default to the same position at which you cast your bait. If it doesn’t, readjusting is no biggie.
Hold the aim directive until the sandfish is highlighted in blue. With your target locked, release the directive and let your trap fly. You should have yourself a successful catch, unless the sandfish is too big for your trap. In this case, you’ll simply need a bigger piece of equipment.

Is Fishing Worth it in My Time at Sandrock?
At the end of the day, sandfishing isn’t the most lucrative pastime in My Time at Sandrock. As a beginner, you won’t catch anything that’s worth much. Profits will increase with better traps, but there are better ways to make money in the game. That said, cooking is your biggest incentive to go fishing. Meals can restore various amounts of stamina, which comes in handy when you’re focused on mining for materials.
