Mortal Kombat 1 Quitalities, Explained

In the Mortal Kombat franchise, a Quitality refers to a finishing move performed on a player who quit the game in the middle of a match. You’ll see this most often in cases of ragequitting. That said, there are plenty of other reasons your opponent might incite a Quitality, such as being untimely disconnected from the game’s server.

Unlike other iconic finishers like Fatalities and Brutalities, there are no control inputs that you need to enter to perform a Quitality. The final blow is instead enacted by the opposing fighter while the Quitality is announced. When your rival quits the game during a match, the lights will dim and the opposing fighter will essentially off themselves in the most brutal way possible.

The first Quitality mechanic was introduced back in Mortal Kombat X, where these finishing blows entailed opposing fighters having their heads impaled with a giant rock spike, similar to a Hara-Kiri. In Mortal Kombat 1, Quitalities include watching your rival snap their own neck or spontaneously combust.

In any case, the only prerequisite to a Quitality is that you must be fighting against another player in an online multiplayer match. As such, you won’t see this finishing move performed in single-player story mode

How to Perform Quitalities in Mortal Kombat 1

There’s nothing that you as the player can do to perform Quitalities in Mortal Kombat 1 — unless you choose to quit the game yourself. Of course, you won’t stick around to see this brutal finisher in the event that this happens. If you play enough online matches, however, you’re bound to see a Quitality in action at some point.
