Gemma quickly became the fan-favorite NPC of Monster Hunter Wilds, and as it turns out, her voice actor stopped by Reddit to ask some questions about the game and ended up answering a lot more.
Monster Hunter Wilds is the talk of the town, as Capcom’s latest title already has about a million active players. Hunting huge monsters while wielding a variety of (usually) oversized weapons turned out to be just what the players wanted. And let’s not forget some amazing visuals, detailed characters, tiny critters, and NPCs. On that last note, one stands out above the rest, and that is Gemma, the local smith. She quickly became a favorite due to her design and surprisingly fleshed-out character. Top it all off with some great voice acting, and you can see why. And it turns out her voice actor is just as likable as she is.
The Voice Actor for Gemma Answers Some Questions Asked by Monster Hunter Wilds Players
The English voice actor for Gemma is Kristen McGuire, who was a comic book writer before becoming an established voice actor. In a surprising twist, she stopped by Reddit to ask some questions about the game. “I just got my copy of the game yesterday and am excited to play. However, this is my first MH game that I’ve ever played, and I feel woefully underprepared. Do you have any tips for a total noob like me?” asked Kristen.
In a wholesome turn of events, the players were more than happy to offer some advice and words of praise for her work in MHW. And some just couldn’t resist sneaking in a couple of cheeky questions.
- “Is it gonna feel weird hearing your own voice and then unfortunately but inevitably skipping your own dialog to craft?” asked Groose_McLoose.
Kristen: “…..I’ve already done it. #outed” - “How many ‘Hellos’ did you record? ” asked Coreldan.
Kristen: “I honestly don’t remember lol.”
- One user was surprised (and rightfully so) that she and everyone else didn’t already get free copies of the game on day one. Kristen replied: “We rarely get free copies of the games we work on, but I don’t mind buying them because it supports the devs! That said, I’m a physical collector, so I had to wait for the game to be back in stock.”
- Lastly, one user asked (or rather, hoped) whether she has the same haircut as Gemma, but Kristen replied: “It’d look terrible on me lol.”
We know that sometimes Voice Actors get some serious flak for their characters (like when the VA for Brigitte from Overwatch received IRL threats from psychotic players since her character was dominating the game at one point), so it is always heartwarming to see players offer some sound advice in a friendly and non-condescending manner. Once again, kudos to Kristen McGuire for her amazing work at MHW.
