Being relatively fresh, Marvel Rivals is still in the pre-season phase with Season 1 right around the corner. As with most online games, Marvel Rivals also has a Battle Pass. It has a limited offer of Free cosmetics, and as usual, a more expanded offer for those who purchase the Luxury Battle Pass. On that note, the most recent Dev Diaries shed some light on how exactly the Luxury Battle Passes will work in Marvel Rivals, and what’s the deal with Chrono Tokens.
Marvel Rivals Dev Diaries Talks About Luxury Battle Passes and Chrono Tokens
On December 24, Marvel Rivals’ website released another Dev Diaries article, explaining how Luxury Battle Passes will work, and what’s the deal with Chrono Tokens between Passes. In summary, Luxury Battle Passes are permanent once purchased. That means you can get those rewards even after the Pass expires. So, if you spend money to get it, it’s yours forever. You can use Chrono Tokens from future Seasons to unlock the rewards.
Speaking of Chrono Tokens, Marvel Rivals devs decided that your unused Chrono Tokens will reset back to zero every new Season. However, the Chrono Tokens that you purchased using Lattice will transfer to the next Season. When a Battle Pass expires, all your unused Chrono Tokens (not counting the ones you “purchased”) will be used to automatically get the unclaimed Battle Pass rewards, “in the default sequence”. This most probably means from the first page onwards.
This is most likely to prevent players from hoarding Chrono Tokens so they can instantly purchase everything in a new Pass on day one. However, the second part is not warmly received by the majority of players.
Marvel Rivals Fans Not Happy With the Chrono Tokens Reset Mechanics
Unfortunately, the fact that you can’t hoard your Tokens does not sit well with a lot of players. You can see a lot of negative comments on X, like: “I grinded all my extra chrono token quests for what…” from roidragerem.“I have 5k crono tokens and didn’t buy the battle pass yet cause there’s nothing I want in there. They should carry over this is lame.” by CleoKujo, and “I finished the battle pass in like a week, they’re gonna need more content if the chrono tokens are gonna be reset every time.” stated Kieracoven. On that last one, the devs did say that the Season 0 Battle Pass is roughly half of what a regular Battle Pass will be.
In any case, we will see how this will affect the game. We don’t think it’s that big of a deal. People are used to Battle Passes coming and going, so having them permanent if purchased is pretty cool. Sad to see that if you happen to miss out on one, it’s gone forever, but that’s life for ya. The Chrono Tokens issue, well, you’ll be getting them by playing the game anyway, so it’s not that horrible. The only ones really affected are the ones who want everything from day one.
