By now, you probably know that Season 2 starts on April 11. Almost a week ago, the devs confirmed that the upcoming Season will revolve around the Hellfire Gala, with Emma Frost being added at the very start. Well, it’s time to see what changes the new Season will bring. The Marvel Rivals developers issued comprehensive patch notes, which raised some eyebrows.
What’s in the Patch Notes?
On April 8, the devs shared the patch notes on the official Marvel Rivals account on X. They noted: “The latest patch notes – version 20250411 – are here! Get ready to explore the exciting new content and captivating surprises in S2.0”.
The devs added: “Maintenance will begin on April 11 at 2:00 AM PDT and is expected to take approximately 2–3 hours. During this time, the servers will be offline, and players will not be able to access the game. Server return times may vary based on progress”.
The post included a link to the full patch notes, which you can read here. The players were overall quite satisfied with all the incoming changes. Even though not all players were thrilled about some balancing decisions, most players generally deemed this patch great. At the very least, the players agreed on the things that needed to be fixed.
One Patch Note Divides the Marvel Rivals Community
So, what is in these patch notes that is so controversial that the Marvel Rivals players couldn’t find common ground? It’s the sixth note in the “Ranked” portion of changes.
It states: “Currently, the score you earn per Competitive match is determined by both the outcome and your individual performance. After Season 2.0 launches, we will be increasing the weight of individual performances. The better you perform, the more points you will earn in victory, and the fewer points you will lose in defeat”.
This change is quite divisive. Furthermore, it could change the entire gameplay. So, the players will prioritize their personal performance, which could lead to dysfunctional teams. CammyWhammy noted: “That’s a bad thing actually. People will play for numbers rather than to win, and pick high-number characters for it”.
However, many players are excited to see this change. Dozens of players left comments such as “Nice”, “Great change”, etc. One player, Leo_the_Lion25, exclaimed: “Celestial here I come”.
We suppose the only thing the players can do now is wait for the new Season and see how big of an effect this change will make. Hopefully, it won’t ruin the teamwork. Season 2 starts on April 11. Until then, enjoy the game, relax with the new Venom emote, and see you out there.
