As it turns out, if someone is a superhero in a video game, that doesn’t mean they are one in real life as well. Or, at the very least, a decent human being. Reports of misogyny have upset the Marvel Rivals community. Female players worldwide report being treated poorly. They shared their experiences and all the ways that one can help out.

Female Players Shouldn’t Be Called “Good Girls”

Everyone loves coming home after a long day and turning on their favorite game. It’s a wonderful way to let off steam and unwind. If you enjoy team-based multiplayer games, such as Marvel Rivals, you also get to hang out with some cool people with similar interests. Sounds perfect, right? Well, not for everyone.

It seems that female players have been having lots of problems with other players insulting them, sexualizing them, or even just talking down to them. In order to raise awareness female players called out the rude behavior on Reddit.

One player, SoupCorrect2910, noted: “I get you can just mute everyone… but when it comes to playing comp it’s nice to have coms. It’s genuinely frustrating how as soon as I say something I’m called a wh*re or times when if I say something they just say “good girl” over and over”.

This player went on to explain how when she used comms other players would either flirt with her or be condescending. She added: “I just play for fun. I solo queue and have gotten to Diamond 2 so I’m fairly confident in my skills. But no matter what I do, I can’t escape the more vulgar, disgusting, sexist comments “

How to Deal With Misogyny in Marvel Rivals?

Chauvinism isn’t rare in gaming communities, by any means. Even our favorite ones, such as the Helldivers 2 community have had problems with misogynistic behavior. In these instances, it is of utmost importance for the community to come together and offer support. So, we were happy to see that the Marvel Rivals community gladly stood together against misogyny.

First things first, if someone treats you in an unwanted way, feel free to report them. Players noted that they had good outcomes in such cases, so it’s worth the hustle. One player, tamaaromarou, noted: “Just make sure you’re reporting them. The only way the problem is going to get fixed if people start to realize that they will actually get penalized for being a d**k to other players for no reason”.

Now, if you prefer a faster and more creative solution, well, Evening_Travel_9090 has you covered. They suggested: “I have a soundboard I can use in-game. And, every time somebody is toxic/Sexist/Homophobic/Racist I just use a very loud incorrect Buzzer noise. Usually always shuts them up pretty well”. Genius!

Of course, muting is always an option, however, we prefer standing up to bullies, and we have a feeling you’ll get supported by your other teammates if you speak up. Others should support you even without speaking up, don’t get us wrong, but unfortunately, we obviously don’t live in a perfect world. Let’s make this game a better place, for everyone. Enjoy and see you out there.
