High passes are an essential component of any play in Madden 24. With the ability to launch the ball over your opponent’s heads, it’s a mechanic that lets you make plays around the map. Unlike the lob or touch passes, the high pass is fairly difficult but worth it if you’re able to pull it off. Today we’ve compiled a detailed guide for players who are struggling with how and when to do a high pass in Madden 24.
How to Perform a High Pass in Madden 24
To perform a high pass, hold down the L1 button (for PlayStation) and LB button (for Xbox). If you’re looking to get the ball halfway across the field in one go, the high pass is the best tool to achieve this. You don’t have to cut through the entire team, and it goes directly to your chosen receiver.
Once you hold down your respective key to perform a high pass, it will show you several receivers you can send the high pass to with different buttons over their heads. Simply press the button hovering over the player you want to pass the ball to. Once you’ve selected the receiver, your quarterback will send the high pass to the selected receiver.
Remember that the ball can always be intercepted mid-air before it reaches your receiver. This is a very common issue players face and the reason they avoid using the high pass. However, we’ll be explaining when you should opt for a high pass and things to watch out for.
When Should You Do a High Pass?
There are a total of six passes in Madden 24. These include the lob pass, high pass, low pass, bullet pass, touch pass, and lateral pass. Out of these six, the lob and high pass are used to avoid defenders and send the ball wide.
Now the best situation to use the high pass in is when you see your nearby teammates swarmed with opposing players. This means you can’t pass the ball to them and risk a turnover. So when this happens, you’ll want to press the L1/LB button and opt for a high pass. You’ll obviously have to look for a wide receiver that is free as well; otherwise, this play could turn on its head really fast.
Are The Other Types of Passes Useful?
Of course, every mechanic in Madden 24 has some sort of utility. What makes this game unique is all the different plays you can make depending on your choices. If you choose to go with a bullet pass instead of a high pass, it will change the way the rest of the play goes. That said, you really shouldn’t opt for high passes when someone nearby is free.
The reason behind this is that high passes open you up to fumble or interception chances. It’s much easier to run straight with the ball toward the end zone, which is why bullet passes are highly favored passes in Madden 24. So before making any play, always make sure to read the state of the field first so you make the best decision possible.
