How Long is Lords of the Fallen (2023)? Campaign Length and Challenges

How Long is Lords of the Fallen?

Lords of the Fallen is out now, and fans are wondering: How long does it take to beat? We have your answer here. Stick around for a rundown of average play time to complete the game’s campaign.

Lords of the Fallen (2023) follows up its 2014 predecessor of the same name, splitting your efforts as a Lampbearer between the Axiom and Umbral realms. As you traverse the intertwined worlds of the living and the dead, your job is to stop the demon lord Adyr from rising to power. Needless to say, this isn’t a task easily accomplished overnight. Here’s a look at how many hours you can expect to invest in the game’s campaign.

How Long Does it Take to Beat Lords of the Fallen Campaign?

To beat the campaign in Lords of the Fallen, you should expect to log roughly 40 hours, give or take. Of course, average play time will vary from one gamer to the next, so we’d estimate roughly five hours or so of wiggle room here.

While series veterans have a leg up when it comes to delegating their time between realms, it may take newcomers a bit longer to get into the swing of things. That said, there are plenty of other factors that might also affect the amount of time put into completing the dual campaign.

Challenges that May Affect Completion Time

  • Switching Sides — In Lords of the Fallen, you essentially live a double life. As you move between the realms of the living and the dead, your life is on the line — literally. Learning the related mechanics can take some getting used to, especially for new players. Getting offed in the Axiom realm means respawning in the Umbral realm. However, dying in the Umbral realm doesn’t offer the same fail safe. Instead, you’ll need to regain the Vigor you’ve lost from the last Waypoint you reached. This refers to the XP you’ve gained, so you’ll want to get it back ASAP. Of course, this can be tricky if you lost your life in battle against a tough boss.
  • Boss Battles — Bleeding into the next point, boss battles can feel a lot like going to hell and back. Much is at stake, especially if you’ve already spent one of your lives in the Axiom realm. With this in mind, you’ll need to plan your moves to the best of your ability. Each mistake counts against you, sometimes placing you in critical condition. Loss against a boss means reliving the same battle until you emerge victorious with the Vigor you’ve earned. It goes without saying, this can act as a time loop when you’re logging hours.
  • Enemies Galore — The Umbral realm is crawling with undead enemies just waiting to take you down with them. You should enter well-prepared to take on hordes of the fallen. You’ll also find a solid amount of foes in the Axiom realm, so don’t let your guard down if you want to keep your life. Unsuspecting players might find this endless hunt time-consuming.
  • Personalized Plot — Lords of the Fallen offers up three different endings depending on the choices you make on your journey. Of course, no path is so cut-and-dry that you can seamlessly follow it to the end in mere hours. This feature alone has perhaps the biggest influence on play time, so be sure the choices you make on your playthrough are sound.
  • Fixed Save Points — You can only save in locations where you’ve crafted and placed bonfires in Lords of the Fallen. In this way, every save point is fixed, though not in a traditional sense. By limiting the times at which you’re able to save, you’re encouraged to keep pressing on until you’ve gathered the necessary materials to set up a bonfire. Naturally, this will take some time to accomplish.
  • No Map, No Way Home — In line with the last point, you’re essentially winging your trip between realms in Lords of the Fallen. Without a map, you can’t very well plan your next move. Because of this, you need to consider what may lie ahead before moving forward. Even so, there’s no way to predict exactly what’s in store, tacking extra time onto your playthrough.
