Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the next chapter in line in the Yakuza saga, set to release later this month on January 26. The upcoming entry from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA brings Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu to the center of the story in an action RPG format rife with classic fighting game elements. While there are plenty of draws to the new installment, from a change of scenery to thrilling minigames and other activities to explore, fans of the series are especially interested in how the combat system might play out in the game. Is Infinite Wealth another turn-based entry? Here’s what we know.

Is Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Turn-Based?

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will, in fact, feature a turn-based system. This falls in line with the series order, as the next chapter is a continuation of the events that transpired in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. However, this won’t be the only combat style on offer.

With the release of Infinite Wealth, players will now have the option to switch up their fighting style by returning to real-time combat at specified points in the game. At least, when you’re playing as Kiryu, one of the game’s co-protagonists. This feature was revealed in a gameplay trailer released by SEGA back in September of last year, gaining approval from fans of the series.

Fortunately, this means those who were unsatisfied with the development studio’s decision to do away with real-time combat in past entries can finally take matters into their own hands. At the same time, you can still take a backseat with the less complicated turn-based system that remains a key component of the game.
