Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to Fallen Order, Respawn’s first attempt at something outside the Star Wars norm. One question on gamers’ tongues is, does Jedi Survivor follow in the same footsteps as a Dark Souls-like experience as its younger brother?
Or will it follow a different path? We have the answers.
Is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a Soulslike?
Yes, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will very much be like Dark Souls. However, it will drastically differ from Dark Souls in numerous ways. The Cal Kestis saga follows Sekiro more than Dark Souls, especially with the main mechanic deflecting.
Timed button presses to deflect damage or counter are essential in Sekiro and Fallen Order combat. In the Dark Souls series, parrying is more of an optional mechanic, where dodging and blocking are paramount to survival.

Soulslike game features are present in Jedi Survivor, such as difficulty, limited health curatives, enemies respawning after finding a resting location, and more. And the main similarity is that both games can be incredibly challenging and can easily outmatch the player’s patience.
Even so, Jedi Survivor and Fallen Order have major differences when compared to Dark Souls and other From Software titles.
The most significant difference is difficulty options, something no Soulslike game has ever had or will have. Fallen Order had four difficult options, ranging from how easy it is to deflect, how much health enemies have, etc.
We believe that Jedi Survivor will have the same focus, which makes it more accessible than Dark Souls ever will be.
Jedi Survivor is more story-driven and more like a Soulslike-Metroidvania hybrid, something that From Software games have never attempted. Sure, you need items to progress, but you never need abilities, and abilities are a staple of the Metroidvania genre.
It’ll be interesting to see how Jedi Survivor accomplishes progression when Cal in Fallen Order remembers all he has learned.
At the end of the day. Jedi Survivor is a Dark Souls-like experience, but it differs significantly from what you expect and is enough to stand tall on its own.
