While it’s important to stand up to and demand equality, it’s also important for women to have a gaming community where they feel safe. On December 5, Infinity Nikki dropped and many players were delighted to notice that it was actually female-friendly.
What Makes Infinity Nikki Stand Out as Female-Friendly?
If you haven’t had a chance to try out Infinity Nikki, it’s an open-world adventure with dress-up elements. It also has gacha elements. However, unlike many other gacha games, the accent is put on female fashion, rather than on the male gaze. Obviously, this was a smart decision, as more than 10 million players downloaded this game since its release.
One satisfied player, xiaomoonies, took to Reddit to share what made this game stand out. This player noted: “I’ve loved games like GI, HSR, WUWA for years and I enjoyed the open-world exploration and storylines but the over-sexualization of the female characters always bothered me. I studied media, I know in depth about the male gaze and how they’d use camera angles and voice lines to sell them as sexy for the male players, but I always felt so uncomfortable and degraded as a woman playing these games”.
She explained how she was shamed by male players of the aforementioned games whenever she tried to communicate the problems within them. Still, this didn’t make the OP stop trying out new games. And, she finally found what she was looking for in Infinity Nikky.
She noted: “But now, with IN, there’s so much love and beauty. Gorgeous outfits that aren’t over-sexualized, a vast world, a cute Momo, amazing quests, and creatures to see. It’s so refreshing and I didn’t realize how different it would feel playing a game targeted at ME as a girl”.
Players Have Been Waiting for a Gacha Game Like This One
Well, many players resonated with this. The majority of Infinity Nikki players are in fact women, so having a game cater to them and be female-friendly completely makes sense. A woman can be many things, so it’s nice to see that represented in a game.
Big-Criticism-8137 stated: “Nikki really shows us that femininity isn’t about sexual things. It’s about being who you are as a female person. You can be soft or strong. You can be cute or cool. Also, you can be a princess or a cool knight. But you can still be a sexy woman if you want it – the choice is yours and nothing will take away your femininity. Without weird jiggly-physics and panty-shots every 2 seconds. Without being reduced to your body”.
Another player, ConcerningHobbits_22, added: “I found it interesting that one of the styles in Nikki is “sexy”. Because she is an adult and it is a game with I think more of an adult audience, she’s allowed to be sexy… And the sexy clothing in Nikki isn’t just as revealing as possible, it’s actually a style of normal clothing”.
We have to agree that it’s important to appreciate the diversity. Women aren’t all the same, nor do they have the same tastes or want the same things. So, it’s incredibly nice to see a game that simply celebrates women for being women. We hope you’ll enjoy it.
