How to Get Clay in Stardew Valley

The mines in Stardew Valley.

There are many resources or items in Stardew Valley that can be used in a number of ways. They can be used to craft other items in the crafting menu, given as a gift, used to build structures in your farm or, if all else fails, they can simply be sold.

One of those resources is clay, which is primarily used to build/craft things such as garden pots and brick floors. However, many new players might have difficulties gathering enough clay to complete all their recipes, and that’s why we’re here.

We’ll be going through the various ways you can get your hands on some clays in Stardew Valley in this guide so you never have a lack of clay again.

Stardew Valley – Best Way To Get Clay

Remember when we said we’ll be going through the ‘various’ ways of getting clay in this game? That’s because there are a total of four ways to get your hands on this resource, although some are more reliable than others.

Just Keep Digging

The first and honestly most common way of getting clay in Stardew Valley is by simply digging around. By tilling the ground enough times, you might notice that clay tends to pop out every now and then. May it be sand or dirt, just keep digging and you’ll get clay eventually.

If you would rather focus on specific spots instead of digging around aimlessly, then you can look for artifact spots as well, since they’re more likely to give you clay along with other valuable resources and materials.

Artifact spots, for those who don’t know, are spots on the ground where you can see little worms sticking out. When you see one, use a How to dig it up, since other tools won’t work. Artifact spots seem to be more likely to give players clay during the winter.

Mining Clay Nodes

One method that’s rather unknown by even most veteran players is mining clay nodes to extract clay. In the Ginger Island Dig Site, which can be unlocked by repairing the broken bridge West of the Island Field Office, there’s a chance for clay nodes to spawn every day. When they spawn, you can mine those clay nodes in order to acquire some valuable clay.

Inside Geodes

Geodes are mineral deposits that contain other minerals and can be found primarily by breaking rocks in mines. When you get your hands on a couple of them, you’ll have to process them either by using a geode crusher or by taking them to the blacksmith, Clint.

By processing a geode, you’ll be able to extract the minerals inside of them, which might include, you guessed it, clay. Keep in mind that it takes one coal to use the geode crusher, and Clint takes 25 gold per geode.

Given as a Gift

The final way of getting some clay in Stardew Valley can only be done during the Feast of the Winter Star, which is the final festival of the year. If you are paired with either Jas or Vincent, then there’s a chance that you might get some clay as a gift.

Of course, you can gift other clay as well, but pretty much all of them either dislike it or downright hate it. Hey, their loss.
