Capcom really knows how to blow up our expectations, and it’s done no different with releasing the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo.
Well, turns out that Capcom doesn’t just riddle their game with hidden easter eggs and secret loot; they’ve been hiding an entire, tougher difficulty level right under our noses. As if the standard difficulty wasn’t hard enough already, it turns out there’s an even more extreme mode that you can test out in the Mad Chainsaw demo.
That’s right, modders discovered that you could unlock the hidden Mad Chainsaw mode by inputting very specific combinations.
How To Activate ‘Mad Chainsaw’ Mode On Each Platform
The Mad Chainsaw difficulty in Resident Evil 4 Remake can only be activated from the Main Menu. The changes will apply after you’ve entered the combination and hopped into the game. Here are the inputs you must enter if you’re playing Resident Evil on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC platforms.
How to activate Mad Chainsaw Mode on PS4/PS5
Go to the Main Menu, hover over Main Story, and press the following buttons in this specific order: R1+L1, Up, Left, Down, Right, Square, Triangle, Circle, X, and X again.
How to activate Mad Chainsaw Mode on Xbox Series
Go to the Main Menu, hover over Main Story, and press the following buttons in this specific order:
RB+LB, Up, Left, Down, Right, X, Y, B, A, and A again.

How to activate Mad Chainsaw Mode on PC
Go to the Main Menu, hover over Main Story, and press the following buttons in this specific order:
Up, Left, Down, Right, R, I, Left CTRL, and then press the space bar twice.
Upon entering the sequence, you’ll be met with a prompt asking whether you’d like to continue with the much more challenging difficulty or stick with the standard difficulty. Press Continue, and you should be good to go.
What Can You Expect In Mad Chainsaw Mode
The ‘Mad Chainsaw’ difficulty in Resident Evil 4 Remake apparently doesn’t bring any new items, mobs, or enemies alongside it. However, it scales the difficulty level of each mob way more than how the rest of the difficulty levels compare with each other.
If you plan on surviving the most extreme difficulty in Resident Evil 4 Remake, you’re going to have to preserve yourself as you make your way toward the village. That means evading all the mobs looking to gift you a very gruesome death. Try to loot up and deck yourself out with the strongest items before you activate the horde in the final village.
