Relationships are important, in WarTales as in real life. Your mercenaries have to spend a lot of time around each other, which means keeping them friendly can go a long way toward keeping your party as strong as possible. With relationships being so core, you will need to be sure to keep everyone happy with one another.
There are multiple ways to improve your character’s relationships, as well as a few ways to hurt them. This guide will walk you through both so that you can be sure to have a tight-knit party, where each is prepared to rely on the other amid battle.
How Do You Get Characters to Like Each Other in WarTales?
There are a few ways to improve character relationships:
- Have characters rest next to each other at the campfire.
- Have them fight next to each other and use helpful abilities in combat
- Choose relationship-building options in character random events
How Can You Improve Character Relationships at the Camp?
There are several useful structures your characters can interact with at the camp, with one of the core ones being the Campfire. Players use the campfire to feed the party and page wages, but they can also assign characters to sit around the fire and gain happiness for the party. Characters that are sitting next to the Campfire at the same time will build their relationships. Try to rotate which characters are working at which stations, so that you can slowly build up the relationships at the Campfire. The campfire has four slots to occupy, so there should always be a few characters who will still be available to work on the other structures.

How Can You Improve Character Relationships in Battle?
Having characters fight next to each other also builds relationships. Have your characters end turns next to each other, or use helpful abilities on one another. This can quickly build up their relationships together.
You will have to be careful using this method. One of the quickest ways to deteriorate a relationship is to accidentally have a party member damage another during combat. Be very cognizant of what your party members are doing, and especially be aware if a party member is readying an AoE ability. Some enemies can knock your characters back with their moves, and they can sometimes move your friendly units into another party member’s line of fire. Always be sure to be careful in these situations.
How Do You Improve Character Relationships Through Character Events?
The last way to build up relationships is through character events. Sometimes, when resting in the camp, your characters will have a speech icon appear over their heads. These begin small character events, where the party member talks about how they feel about their recent activities, and you are given three options as to how to respond. These options consistently have part repercussions, with answers that can bring close companions together, or annoy others in the party in exchange for a boost to that specific character. Bring cognizant of the effects the choice will have on the entire team is crucial in these moments.

What Do Relationships Between Characters Do in WarTales?
Your party members can gain a handful of useful buffs for good relationships, and some debuffs for bad ones.
Friends of the highest order will do more damage next to each other in combat, making them a potent fighting duo. When in the camp, they also can give bonuses to certain camp tasks, increasing the amount of output given from certain structures if they are working on the same one.
Party members who are enemies can do quite the opposite. They will want to be distanced in battle, will refuse to work if paired with their enemy, and will sometimes even want a character to be kicked out of the party. If members start to dislike one another, you must deal with the issues early, before your characters start to effect the morale of the whole party.
This should be all you need to know to keep your party as a tight-knit unit. The power of weapons and armor is powerful, but even WarTales can’t ignore the importance of the power of Friendship.
