It’s been a rough couple of weeks for devoted Helldivers. The latest update really shook up the community, and as they were trying to find common ground with the devs, the bots swooped in and made advances toward Super Earth. This caused several unusual things to happen. First, Rebel Helldivers created Chaosdivers. An even stranger occurrence was that probably for the first time ever Helldivers 2 players actively chose the Automaton front over the bug front without a Major Order.
Bugdivers Migrate to the Automaton Front
It took the players a couple of days to comprehend this surprising turn of events. One player, trungbrother1, noted: “This update created a major paradigm shift in the bot front. People are beginning to shift to the bot front. For the. first time, we get 40% of all the troops deploying against the Automatons without a Major Order”. This player also shared an image showcasing the in-game distribution of Helldivers 2.
As you probably know, this has hardly ever happened before, as most players have always preferred fighting bugs, even if there was a Major Order on the Automaton front. What could have triggered this sudden change of bugdivers’ hearts?
A player, kchunpong, suggested two possibilities. They stated: “First, Curia is so near Super Earth and loyalist Helldivers have rallied up to recapture the planet. Second, The flame nerf has made a great impact on the bugs’ gameplay experience, so it may have led to some bugdivers switching sides”.
Helldivers 2 Players Share Their Reasons for Leaving the Bug Front
Most former bugdivers agreed on why they switched sides and moved to the Automaton front of Helldivers 2. Ezperpentor89 noted: “Me and my buddies mostly played bugs, but after the infamous patch, bugs feel just annoying and desperate as hell. The new Brood Commanders are all over the place and of course summon the mini Mike Tysons”.
Another player, inlukewarmblood, explained: “Fighting bugs just sucks right now. You either need to be a horde clear loadout and suck at heavy damage, or be a heavy damage specialist and be helpless during hordes. God knows the game does a f**king awful job at naturally instigating meaningful teamwork, so relying on teammates isn’t as much of a given”.
Other players pointed out that the botdivers “won” the latest update. VidiVectus said: “It helps that the bot front is currently peak fun. 10s are hard enough that groups are sticking together and the meta is pretty much perfect with a solid Gunner/AT/Assault role split with multiple viable loadouts in each category”.
Whatever their reasons were, we appreciate the teamwork. This only raises the question: was dividing the players equally between the fronts the ultimate goal of the balance team? If it was, they succeded masterfully. If they manage to keep the numbers in this fine balance and also buff all the weapons, there might not be a need for time travel after all.
