Why Aren’t More Players Using Pelican Hovering? Helldivers 2 Community Divided Over an Unusual Trick

Let’s face it, we all have different habits in the same game. Sometimes it’s the superstitious things, sometimes it’s actual tricks we’ve picked up along the way. Well, one unusual technique has been the subject of many conversations lately. Have you ever heard of the Pelican Hovering in Helldivers 2? Reportedly, if done correctly, it can be incredibly useful.

Helldivers Might Kick You for Pelican Hovering

One fan and frequent user of Pelican Hovering, Wonderlarr, has had a lot of trouble with their teammates when trying to do it. Exasperated by constant critiques, this player tried to acquire some support from their fellow Helldivers on Reddit.

The OP noted: “Why does nobody understand Pelican Hovering? In pretty much every mission I play, I “hover” the Pelican around extraction. If you aren’t familiar, I call in extraction super early, but I leave the extraction zone right when the timer hits 10 seconds. This way, Pelican-1 will hover over the zone and provide covering fire with its powerful autocannon turret, and once my team finishes we can leave almost immediately”.

Now, this sounds like a great idea, right? Why would anyone be annoyed by more support? Well, it seems that the OP had been making one crucial mistake over and over again. They continued: “What I don’t understand is why people dislike this so much? I do this and almost every time get a “why did you do that” before explaining the whole thing in voice chat, and even then I’ve still been kicked afterward”.

Helldivers 2 Players Agree – Communication Is Key

As it turns out, according to Helldivers 2 players, the biggest problems with Pelican Hovering are not announcing it and having to trust a random player that they know what they’re doing. As for us, we’re willing to trust all of our teammates with our lives. However, that trust goes right out the window if we see someone calling for extraction without saying a word. Once the trust is broken, well, it’s almost impossible to be restored.

One player, minhbi99, explained: “Because for a lot of people, it’s a gamble between “would this person really do Pelican Hover or would they leave”. It takes trust in random and that’s a hard thing to ask for”.

Vargras added: “It’s not explained and not obvious what you’re doing. To everyone else, you’re calling extract unnecessarily early. They don’t know whether you’re going to immediately hop on the ship or not”.

Of course, some Helldivers just don’t like it. AberrantDrone noted: “I personally think it’s a cheap trick and dislike having it used in my missions. Same thoughts on the infinite grenade and duplicate resupply exploits. They just sour the experience for me”.

As always, we’d advise you to communicate your intentions clearly and before actually doing anything. That way, your teammates will get a say and won’t be surprised by your actions. So, if you want to try Pelican Hovering, maybe even for the current Major Order, consult your fellow Helldivers first. No matter the violence, the Helldivers 2 community loves good manners.
