While the Illuminate are terrifying of their own accord, they become even more so when you find out they used mind control and transformed the poor citizens of Calypso. Now, these zombie-like creatures roam the streets and attack Helldivers. Well, there is quite a lot of Helldivers 2 lore behind the so-called Voteless, and a leaked newsreel provides us with all the details. Furthermore, one YouTube video reveals just how sad the final moments of the Voteless are.
A Leaked Newsreel Shows a Terrifying Fate of the Voteless
One devoted Helldiver, Asunderknight, shared a leaked Strohmann News video. In it, Coretta Kelly shares some breaking news. According to her, the Ministry of Science confirmed that the deformed assailants were once citizens of Super Earth.
Ms. Kelly continues to explain that captured specimens show no trace of their former selves. It’s too late to save them. She advises the remaining citizens to guard themselves from the Illuminate mind control by showing off their dedication to Super Earth and democratic values. Of course, this short segment of Strohmann News was approved by the Ministry of Truth.
Helldivers 2 Players Are Actually Helping the Transformed Citizens
So, the best way the Helldivers 2 players can help the Voteless is by exterminating them, according to the leaked newsreel. However, something truly blood-chilling happens in the final moments of the poor ex-citizens.
One Helldiver made a compilation of the Voteless death animations. You might have noticed this yourself, but many Helldivers overlook these details, as they are too busy fighting for their dear lives. According to Seeyog, if you hit the Voiceless with arc damage, right before dying, they’ll show their dedication to Super Earth.
Apparently, some of the Voiceless will use their final moments to do the Super Earth Salute. Others will look around in confusion, some will act scared, and some will glance at their deformed arms and forms. We can only assume that they regain consciousness in those final moments, so their reactions are truly heartbreaking.

One player, joshuasmyth3115, noted: “Imagine being turned into one, linked up to the hive mind where your mind has been suppressed to the point where you think you’re just floating in nothingness until, suddenly, a raging ripple of electricity jolts you out of your sleep”.
They continued: “Before you, is a team of Helldivers. As you feel your heart give out from the electric shock of an Arc Blitzer, you look down at yourself and see what you’ve become. The Helldiver raises their Verdict, a high-caliber round chambered as they take aim at your head, and as you have no way to ever communicate your thanks, you salute. And with that, as fast as your waking nightmare began, the Helldivers delivered you the ultimate mercy. Allowing you to be free from the Illuminate’s shackles, free from your torment… at last”.
