It’s safe to assume that probably the majority of Helldivers are too busy spreading Managed Democracy to analyze the in-game mechanics. However, sometimes, it can be incredibly helpful to know more details, so you can re-adjust your strategy. Well, some Helldivers 2 players took it upon themselves to explain the concept of Gambit planets.

What Are Gambit Planets?

As you probably know, for a while now, the players have been asking for more information to be displayed on the Galactic map. Things such as the liberation rate, or the decay rate, aren’t explained in-game. So the players have to consult third-party sites and apps to discover how the system works.

However, let’s be honest, not many players actually trust these sites/apps. Nor are many interested in spending their time figuring out something they didn’t know existed. Similarly, the players who don’t visit Reddit, Discord, or the above-mentioned sites/apps haven’t even heard of the term Gambit planet. So, what exactly is it?

DaerBear69 explained: “Taking the planet that’s launching the attack so you win the defense and take the attacking planet at the same time. It only works if you’ve got enough players and the defense levels are low enough”.

Helldivers Point Out the Significance of Erata Prime

You might be wondering why is this important now. Well, a Gambit planet is being ignored at the time of writing this article. The planet in question is Erata Prime. If the players liberated Erata Prime, Bore Rock would be defended instantly, as the attack was coming from Erata Prime. Taking this Gambit planet would also mean the Helldivers 2 players would be able to concentrate on planets attacked from the Gloom.

This entire mechanic isn’t explained in the game. So, the players mostly just follow the Major Order and join the defense missions, without looking at the bigger picture. KingslayerFate noted: “Game has a big lack of information on how the mechanics of liberating or defending planets work and on how Gambits work. All the devs need to do is bring all the information needed to the Super Destroyer IN-GAME. So, players can be more informed on how the game works”.

So, the next time you are about to join a defense mission, check out where the attack is coming from. If you see a bunch of players on that planet, join them. You might save a Major Order by taking a Gambit planet. That is until we get the DSS, then we should be able to vote on which planet to fight on. For Liberty and Super Earth.
