“We Don’t Want a Social Hub!” Some Helldivers 2 Players Take a Strong Stance

This has been quite a popular topic in the community in the last couple of days. The players are patiently waiting for the devs to finish fixing the Democracy Space Station, and they have quite a lot of expectations. The biggest request is probably the addition of a social hub, a place where Helldivers 2 players could socialize between missions. However, some players claim that a place like that would not only go against lore, but the players would quickly get tired of it.

Five Reasons Why Helldivers Don’t Need the Social Hub

As you know, the DSS was put out of commission when the Illuminate showed up. The High Command revealed that the Squids were behind the problems with the DSS. So, it was time for a rework.

Since it’s been almost a month, many Helldivers are becoming antsy for the return of the DSS. Of course, the expectations for it are even higher than before. One of the main things the players would love to see is some sort of communal space, a social hub of sorts.

However, some players are totally against this idea. One of them, spikywobble, listed five reasons why a social hub was completely unnecessary in Helldivers 2. The first reason was the lore. The OP noted: “Divers are frozen immediately after training and only thawed for missions, then frozen again if not immediately redeployed”.

The second reason was that this hub would become a “spam hellhole”. Tens of thousands of people would talk over each other. Of course, if those chats were to be limited to your crew, well, Helldivers already had that. And, that was the third reason.

The fourth reason was that this would get old quickly. Having shiny new things is always great at first. But, let’s be honest, the players would think of a new request almost immediately. Finally, the fifth reason was that it would be a waste of dev resources. Instead of working on new content, a group of devs would have to maintain the hub.

Players Appreciate the Devs’ Commitment

As controversial as not wanting a social hub might sound, many Helldivers 2 players supported this stance. We loved seeing how the majority of players recognized all the effort the devs made so far. If you’ve been a part of this community for a while, you know that the devs listen to players’ feedback.

One player, Winzito, noted: “Game communities always ask for more. If you listen to gamers you never stop adding features. I’d much rather the devs set boundaries otherwise you just end up in a bloated mess of unfinished things. Just let the devs do their thing”.

There are, of course, some valid requests out there. But, at least at this point in time, there are some bigger priorities than the social hub. At the time of writing this article, Gaellivare is under attack, and the entire Major Order is compromised. So, will you join us there? For Liberty and Super Earth.
