On November 29, Helldivers received some unfortunate news. Thomas Petterson, affectionately known as Twinbeard, is leaving his position as the Helldivers 2 Community Manager. Helldivers were shocked, but still overwhelmingly thankful for Twinbeard’s efforts and commitment during his days as a CM.
The Community Manager Says Goodbye
Twinbeard made an announcement on the official Helldivers 2 Discord. In it, he revealed that his contract with Arrowhead was coming to an end. In fact, November 29 was his last day on the job.
He noted: “From my very first day you welcomed me with open arms and hug emotes. You drew stickers, wrote songs (!) and made me feel beyond appreciated. There’ve been some rough patches, but I always felt that we ventured through the fire tornadoes and sandstorms together. We fought the alien scum and bot menace on the battlefield, experienced the same bugs, and we also turned the tide together. Helldivers 2 is a much healthier game today than it was a few months ago, and it has a bright future alongside all of you. Thank you for sticking with it, us at Arrowhead and me during my service here. Most of you know I neither BS nor lie, so when I say I’m forever grateful for you taking me along this amazing helldive, know that it’s from the bottom of my heart”.
The now-former CM reflected on his job, explaining that there were many things they hadn’t got around to, but that the players should be patient and put their faith into hard-working devs. He added: “… and stay as dedicated, as crazy and as wonderful as you always are”.
Twinbeard promised he’d still be around, however, if you see his message somewhere, it wouldn’t represent Arrowhead anymore. He concluded this wonderful goodbye letter by saying: “Much love and managed democracy. /Thomas”.
Helldivers 2 Players Praise the Leaving CM
Even though many Helldivers 2 players were surprised by the news of the Community Manager leaving, they were quick to offer kind words and best wishes. As you might know, Helldivers always loved Twinbeard, as he was always kind, honest, and patient with them.
WeepTheHorizon noted: “Such a shame to see you go from your position. Your honesty and outward no-sugar-coated information were a breath of fresh air in the industry. Now you get the prestigious honour of fighting tooth and nail as a Helldiver. o7”.
We especially loved seeing Twinbeard reacting to these wonderful shows of affection. Lemony Sniket raved: “A legend who brought the community out of the depths of despair in the darkest of times. You’re a part of gaming history now. Forever in our hearts”.
Memester156 stated: “You’ve been a consistent beacon of liberty’s light throughout this journey from the beginning and it seems it’s time to pass on the torch of freedom to another. Thank you for everything, Twinbeard”.
As sad as this occasion is, we are extremely thankful for everything that Twinbeard did for this community. He made a huge and important positive mark, showing the players that we are all in this together. We wish him all the best, and hopefully, we’ll see him around. For Liberty and Super Earth.
