Truth be told, we didn’t see this coming. As you probably know, occasionally, players will discover a useful glitch, like the emoting while falling bug (gone too soon). However, not many Helldivers 2 players would have guessed that the notoriously reactive Mines could be disabled with Throwing Knives. Well, one devoted Helldiver discovered this hack and decided to share it with the community before it gets fixed.
It Seems That Throwing Knives Can Deactivate a Mine
We truly love it when players share their little discoveries, it shows just how important camaraderie is in this community. Sad-Needleworker-590 simply noted: “Yep, just found out you can turn off mines with a knife”.
The OP shared video evidence along with the message. In this video (also posted below), you can see the OP in the middle of a mission. Peculiarly enough, this player uses Throwing Knives and hits the mines in the vicinity. Then, they demonstrate that the mines are actually deactivated by diving on one of them. Another player is seen simply walking through the mine as if it weren’t there. After demonstrating this and proving their claim, the OP shoots at the mine and it explodes.
Sure, some would say this was maybe a one-time glitch, however, other Helldivers reported the same thing happening to them. One of them, fluffymersk567, stated: “When I did that to try and pop them, I was always a little confused and wondered if it was a glitch”.
Helldivers 2 Players Have Finally Found a Good Use for Throwing Knives
Of course, upon seeing this, many Helldivers 2 players wondered if there was another weapon, aside from the Throwing Knives, that could disable a mine. However, it seems that, at least at the time of writing this article, there isn’t one. One player, TaviGoat, said: “Everything else sets them off. And, considering there’s no feedback and they’re still glowing red afterward, this feels unintended as well”.
Other players were mostly just fascinated with this discovery. In a true Helldivers fashion, the players made tons of jokes. Snoo_63003 noted: “Dude just casually stealth-kills a landmine”. Bodybuilder_Jumpy joked: “So knives finally have a use”.
Interestingly enough, lots of high-level players were shocked by this discovery. Imagine finding this out when you are on level 150 for example. One player, 440nn, admitted: “As a lvl 130 botdiver, I just found out we can turn mines off”.
So, the next time you think that the Throwing Knives aren’t useful, think again. We can’t wait to try this hack out, however, it might be a while. The latest Major Order takes place on the bug front, and it could be the final step to getting the Democracy Space Station. So, grab your Purifier and meet us there. For Liberty and Super Earth.
