There Is More Than the Illuminate in the Latest Patch, Helldivers 2 Players Explore the Biggest Changes

Helldivers 2 players face an Illuminate unit.

On the evening of December 12, Helldivers 2 developers surprised the gaming community by dropping a huge update during The Game Awards. The Omens of Tyranny update features Illuminate, a Warthog, and urban environments. However, this update also came with a huge patch. So, while you are facing the Illuminate in Helldivers 2, you’ll also get to enjoy some incredible fixes that the new patch brought.

Latest Helldivers 2 Patch Overview

Baskinator, Helldivers 2 Community Manager, took to Discord and made a huge announcement. She started by giving an overview of the patch. The top fixes include being able to reconnect to your last match (if your game crashed), balance changes, crash fixes, social menu fixes, and miscellaneous fixes.

Of course, Baskinator had to go over the most exciting part first – the new additions. As you certainly know by now, Helldivers will be fighting against a new faction, in their new FRV vehicle, on brand-new Collony Missions.

The CM noted: “The Illuminate are back, and with them, a new wave of terror threatens our democracy. After nearly a century of relative peace, these technologically advanced enemies have returned. The Illuminate are conducting mysterious invasions across the galaxy, seizing our colonies and converting our citizens. These staging attacks and Illuminate disappearances are too precise and elusive to suggest a full-scale planetary conquest, but their methods and intentions remain a dire enigma”.

Now, many players would stop reading there, but, if you continue going through these patch notes, you’ll find some amazing changes. Keeping up with the balancing trends they set during the last couple of updates, the devs buffed a lot of items.

For example, Helldiver armor now comes with a fire-retardant coating, which means that it’ll take longer for it to catch fire. Several weapons received a hefty buff, as well as some Boosters, Armor Passives, Backpacks, and Stratagems.

We were pleased to see that the mechs weren’t overlooked. The patch notes state: “Both exosuits have been rebalanced to improve durability and extend combat effectiveness while preserving a sense of vulnerability as they now gradually break down from sustained damage. The intention is to improve the experience with Exosuits by adding more gameplay depth”.

Helldivers Should Get Less Ragdolled by the Illuminate

According to some Helldivers 2 players, the best thing about this patch, aside from the Illuminate, would probably be the ragdolling fix. As you know, the devs have been working on ragdolling for a while, so it’s really cool to see some results. Now, Helldivers will be temporarily prone to ragdolling right after being ragdolled.

TwevOWNED stated: ” 10/10 change. This and the changes to rocket striders basically solve all issues with Automatons. The only thing left with ragdolling that I think needs to be addressed is fall distance when diving. You should probably be able to fall twice as far before entering a ragdoll state”.

As always, the extensive patch notes mentioned a lot more. But the players immediately noticed that something was implemented, but omitted from the notes. Thithyphuth noticed: “Something not mentioned in the notes! The Galactic Map now shows the incursion level of defense planets and the level of resistance each planet has. Including specific percentages: Low: 0-1%, Average: 1.5-2%, High: 2.5%+”. We know the devs have been working on the Galactic Map data, but this could massively improve the players’ experience.

So, there is a lot to check out in-game. The latest Major Order is doomed according to some players. However, we’ll gladly sacrifice ourselves for Managed Democracy. Would you join us? For Liberty and Super Earth.
