The Illuminate are back… again! Helldivers 2 players spent their weekend fighting the Squids, and, according to them, it’s been exhausting. It’s been less than two weeks since the Battle for Super Earth, and players loved fighting the Illuminate then, so what changed?
Helldivers Have to Fight the Squids for the Current Major Order
After the Battle for Super Earth, the Illuminate disappeared to lick their wounds. However, it didn’t take long for the magnificent Super Earth scientists to uncloak the Squids’ settlements. Thus, the latest Major Order sends Helldivers to liberate four planets. It isn’t going well.
At the time of writing this article, the players have liberated only one of the planets (Mog, of course!). They’ve made significant progress on Bellatrix (63%), and they should liberate it in around 12 hours. Unfortunately, Hydrobius and Haldus will likely stay under the Illuminate, and the players will fail the MO.
So, how did the players manage to defend Super Earth, but can’t complete a relatively simple MO? Well, there are several factors, like the amount of time they were given. But the biggest factor might be the fact that some players have already grown tired of various new units and fighting the same battle, so they’re fighting on other fronts.
Players Explain Why They’re Avoiding Fighting the Squids
Out of around 45k currently active players, around 24k are on Bellatrix, meaning that 20k players are scattered on other fronts. So, why aren’t all these Helldivers 2 players fighting the Squids?
One player, Grand_Age1279, sarcastically noted: “Love doing the same 3 missions over and over again”. RyanTaylorrz added: “Are you trying to imply a faction with 3 mission types, an extremely common 6000HP weakpointless bullet sponge, and flying rng death generators gets boring quick? I just don’t understand why they took away content from the faction with the least content. Where have SAM sites and Blitz missions gone?”.
Other players simply dislike the enemies, especially Leviathans, out of the mega city environment. Lockbreaker admitted: “I find the leviathans so annoying that I just don’t play illuminate anymore. It’s not that they’re too challenging, it’s just even more cheap, unavoidable deaths in a game that already has too many. It’s not substantially different from dying to a glitch in my mind. They need to be destructible with a spear or something and not respawn”.
These complaints are completely understandable, and the game is meant to be enjoyed. So, if you don’t enjoy fighting the Illuminate, don’t. Everyone (especially the bugdivers) knows that fighting another faction during an MO feels kind of wrong, but if you find it relaxes you while the Squids stress you out, go for it. If you change your mind, we’ll gladly meet you on Bellatrix. For Liberty and Super Earth.
