Have you noticed that something felt off when you were shooting? The difference isn’t that drastic, but it’s there. Well, the Helldivers 2 community finally figured out what changed – the devs removed the height over bore in the previous patch.
What Happened to the Height Over Bore?
First of all, we strongly believe that one doesn’t have to be a weapons expert to enjoy any game, including this one. So, for all of those in the unknown, what is the height over bore? It’s the vertical distance between the rifle’s bore axis and the line of sight through the optic. Or in other words, the height between the center of the barrel and the center of the scope.
Removing the height over bore would give one a feeling of shooting from the scope, which isn’t that rare in video games. However, keeping it makes a game feel a bit more immersive. It’s one of those things that you don’t truly need, but you appreciate the attention to detail.
One player, Muaxh03, showed the difference in shooting pre-patch and post-patch in a YouTube video. It’s obvious that the bullets are now seemingly coming out of the scope.
Helldivers Are Ambivalent About the Removal of Height Over Bore
So, how do the players actually feel about this change? Well, the Helldivers 2 community doesn’t really mind that the devs removed the height over bore. It doesn’t really impact the gameplay (it even helps a little), but it does take away from the realism.
One player, Diamonddragon275, noted: “I honestly really like it when games have this feature, because it means they respect accuracy for firearms over ease of coding or use. I get it if people don’t really like the option because sometimes it messes with their aiming, but it just adds more realism to an already realistic game, which is a really nice touch”.
Another player, mawnkey, disagreed. This player stated: “I think it’s one of the good sacrifices of realism for gameplay that they’ve learned to make. A friend and I had actually calculated that most scopes were zeroed at 200 yds, previously”.
It all boils down to personal preference. So, do you like this change? Either way, your help is needed for the Creek defense! The Major Order is in progress, and we need all hands on deck. Meet us on Vandalon IV. For Liberty and Super Earth.
