“Such a Snooze Fest” Players Are Adamant That Helldivers 2 Needs More Defense Mission Types

Well, someone had to say it! Actually, plenty of payers have said it. If you’ve played Helldivers 2 for a while, you are probably among the players who claim this game lacks more defense mission types. So, what’s the problem with the existing ones?

Helldivers Share What Annoys Them About the Current Defense Mission Types

Many players were quite disappointed upon seeing the latest Major Order. The High Command sent the players to fend off nine bug attacks. Now, some players wrote off the MO as another filler, others are still valiantly fighting, but the majority of players are peeved that they will be doing defense missions for a while.

GratedCheese explained: “Defense campaigns share a handful of missions with Liberation campaigns, and have a singular mission unique just to defense. And well… Evacuate Valuable Assets is both boring and unrewarding”. Pezzo added: “I really, really don’t want to keep having to play Evacuate Assets missions”.

In other words, there is nothing unique about the current defense missions. Another player, GU4RD14N DELTA, stated: “We should honestly get more defense mission types, only having EHVA is boring, especially since it’s just an AA simulator”.

Helldivers Will Keep Losing Territory If Something Doesn’t Change

The concerning thing is the fact that plenty of Helldivers 2 players would rather fail a defense and then liberate or go for a gambit rather than play the current defense mission types. This is a problem that affects all fronts, but it’s the most prominent on the Squid front.

As you know, the Squids only attack and disappear. There are no gambits or liberation efforts on the Illuminate front. Thus, when the players are tired of fending off Squids, the consequences are dire. The players have already lost three whole planets (Angel’s Venture, Moradesh, and Ivis) because of “stale missions”.

Obviously, the devs have other issues to solve before releasing the rest of the Illuminate, so the players will continue to play defense on this front. One player, IlluminateKnight, added: “The sad truth is, we still hold the vast majority of territory in the game, we are in fact on the defense, so of course we’ll have a lot of defending missions, what you really want is new defense content”.

So, the only non-major thing the devs can do is to introduce a new mission type or two. It doesn’t have to be anything too elaborate, the players just want more variety. Now, in the meantime, if you find defense missions tiresome, you can always challenge yourself a bit. Or, join us on Crimsica, we promise we’ll have fun! For Liberty and Super Earth.
