If you are still looking for an effective way to deal with the Squids, we have something great for you. One very devoted Helldivers 2 player and a YouTuber posted a video going through each of the Illuminate units and explaining how to deal with them. Let’s dive in!
Helldivers 2 YouTuber Shares Tips for Fighting Each of the Illuminate Units
CommissarKai is well-known in the Helldivers 2 community. This player always provides the community with useful tips, ideas, and funny commentary. This time, CommissarKai decided to show the community how to approach the nasty Squids in a well-thought-out video.
Since this invasion is only the vanguard, there are only four enemy types. CommissarKai covered all four, giving details about which weapons you should be using against different units. This YouTuber recognizes four new enemy types, plus the Illuminate spaceships.
The Voteless – Helldivers’ Most Unfortunate Enemies
As you know, the Voteless are zombie-like transformed citizens under the control of the Illuminate. They make up the majority of the Illuminate forces. CommissarKai suggests using a light armor pen weapon, such as the SG-225SP Breaker Spray and Pray. They explained: “It doesn’t handle like a brick wrapped in lead”. The OP also advised pairing it with the new Siege Ready Armor Passive, for more ammo and a faster reload.
The Overseers
Ah, the Overseers! Their main role is commanding the Voteless, as you know by now. The easiest way to get rid of them is to go right for the chest. Blow through the armor to expose the wiggly, erm, flesh, and just keep shooting until they drop. Don’t go for the head, as you won’t do much damage. CommissarKai said: “Thankfully, their armor is as flimsy as their bodies, so any light pen primary can clean a Squid in no time”. As for a support weapon, they recommended the Auto Cannon, the AMR, the HMG, or the Laser Cannon.
The Watchers – Some Units Are Just Asking for Death
You’ve seen these pesky units flying around, their role is to call for backup. You can usually spot them quite easily, as they emit light. However, if they sneak up on you, it can get messy. CommissarKai suggested dealing with the Watchers first, so they wouldn’t call for help. The AMR works wonders against them.
The Harvesters – the Big Boys of the Illuminate
Tough to kill, but they have a couple of weak points that you can exploit. The OP explained that the part that connected the “head” with the legs was probably medium armored, and it didn’t have a ton of health. They noted: “If you can keep your aim steady, you can bring them down with just a simple machine gun”. Dropping a 500kg on them won’t do much, as the shield would absorb it. However, with teamwork, one player can blast the shield so the other can blast the Harvester. Teamwork makes the dream work. CommissarKai suggested the Auto Cannon, the AMR, and the medium or heavy machine guns.
The Warp Ships
Their armor and shields are quite impressive. While they’re on the ground, they have energy shields that have to be depleted. Do not use the Recoilless or the Spear, as neither would work. According to CommissarKai, only the 120mm and 380mm barrages do the trick. However, once in the air, you can take them down with your trusty Spear.
Helldivers Share More Ways to Destroy the Illuminate
So, leave that AT build back on your ship, as you won’t need it against the Squids, at least for now. With only 5 Illuminate units joining the Second Galactic war, Helldivers 2 players are having the time of their lives. They gladly offered some of their own tips on how to exterminate the Squids efficiently.
StoryMasteJake noted: “The Arc Thrower is an excellent support weapon against the illuminate due to being capable of clearing hordes of voteless, while also being able to stun lock every other unit. Not even joking, the Watchers, Overseers, AND Harvesters all get stuck in place and can’t attack at all or call in reinforcements”.
Another player, eazy8579, noticed something about Harvesters. They said: “Thing I discovered yesterday, that that horn thing on top of the Harvester’s “head” is where the shield generates from. If you shoot it off, they can’t regenerate their shield after it’s taken down, and it becomes much easier to take them down”.
So, what are you waiting for, dear Helldiver? Get out there and give them hell. The new Major Order is in progress, and the Calamari are back on the menu. We’re currently fighting on Acubens Prime, so join us! For Liberty and Super Earth.
