Service Technician Is the Latest Victim of a Helldivers 2 Patch

You never know how much an NPC means to you until you lose the ability to communicate with them. The latest patch for Helldivers 2 did just that and took away the voice of a beloved Service Technician. Now, the players are theorizing what made the devs make this controversial decision.

Patch Notes Confirm the Service Technician Lost Their Voice

Community members were struck by this decision, as having a quick chat with the Service Technician became a part of many players’ routines. According to the Known Issues section of the patch notes: “Service Technician on the ship cannot be interacted with – they complained they were bothered too much and could not do their work efficiently”.

As you might have expected, Helldivers have a flair for drama. So, their explanations of why this happened are colorful, to say the least. Venator_IV suggested: “She was going to warn us of the patch but they found out what she knew”.

Other players just mourned the loss of a dear friend. AgentNewMexico noted: “The Service Technician was my entire reason for deploying and making sure I did everything I could to make it back. She had Helldiver posters in her room as her kid”.

They continued: “We’re her heroes and she gets to spend every day working with her childhood heroes. Now she has gone silent… Maybe she lost too many of her heroes and just needs a little time to process that”.

Another player, DrPeterThePainter, added: “This legitimately bothers me. Everyone’s been complaining about everything since this game came out. I’ve said nothing. My friends have all left to play other stuff. I’m still playing. I am now mad my friend has been taken away”.

Helldivers 2 Players Can’t Get a Break

Of course, this unfortunate change to the Service Technician was marked in a patch at an even more unfortunate time in Helldivers 2. Many players were very displeased with it, as they were already struggling to accept the latest update.

One player, TacoWasTaken, noted: “I am 101% positive that talking to her triggered crashes and they have no fucking clue as to why so they just disabled it and tries to pass it off sneakily. I’ve got no proof, but also no doubts”.

Another Redditor, theLingeringWill, added: “Too many players were socializing. So, we nerfed the Helldivers’ ability to form proper sentences without containing the words “democracy”, “liberty”, “bughole”, “bot fabricator”, and other such mission critical topics”.

CAPTtttCaHA explained how this might have happened. They said: “The same NPC model is standing under the entry platform. You can see a ‘talk’ icon when looking down. They probably wanted to remove the talk option from that NPC who wasn’t meant to have it. They accidentally removed it from the wrong NPC on the ship”.

Well, we’re sure the Service Technician will get their voice back in a future Helldivers 2 patch. According to the Game Director, they will try to make Helldivers 2 a fan favorite, so this must be on their list. We’re sure the devoted Helldivers will hear the voice of the Service Technician again in the future, so don’t worry and enjoy the game.
