On September 17, Helldivers received probably the most player-oriented update any game has ever had. The developers listened to the players and delivered on their promises to make the game what it was supposed to be – fun. The first reviews of the update are astoundingly positive, and many veterans are making a return to Helldivers 2.
Veterans Return to Helldivers 2
At the time of writing this article, it’s been 7 hours since the update dropped. During that time, the number of players in-game has been slowly rising. According to Steamdb, around 50k players are playing the game at the moment. If we factor in other platforms, the total number of players in-game is probably around 60k. Quite an accomplishment compared to the 25-30k daily maximum in the last thirty days.
These numbers obviously indicate that many Helldivers 2 players decided to return from their breaks after this update. TheExiledDragon73 noted: “Former retired diver here. This patch brought me from retirement and I must say, the game is finally really fun again”.
Weekly_Host_2754 stated: “I was getting burnt out from the constant trend of divers getting weaker as enemies got buffed I stopped playing for a couple of months. Now that the gameplay seems to match the cinematic and marketing materials again, I’m back for more diving”.
Now, since many players were skeptical that the developers would deliver on their promises, we’d expect even more players to return over the next couple of days. In the words of developers: “We’re so back”.
Devoted Helldivers Have Only Words of Praise for the Update
If you are one of the players still hesitant to believe this Helldivers 2 update is as good as it sounds, the community will gladly reassure you and welcome you back. Many players rushed to social media to praise the developers and their accomplishments.
One of those players, atheos013, noted: “It’s at its literal peak in balance, performance, and difficulty right now. They traded us being kinda tanky with weak weapons to glass cannons basically to keep it difficult, but much more fun”.
Another player, MapPristine868, shared their experiences: “Godly. Your choice of weapons for dealing with Heavies has grown massively. And, if you even want to only take a grenade for Heavies you have the Thermite. Dream come true. I would say dive and find your favorite weapons”.
The best advice we can give you is to try it out for yourself. We’d usually say ignore the hype and approach the game without expectations, but, honestly, in this case, the hype is more than deserved. So, join your fellow Helldivers and try out all the buffs, and let’s not forget about the freshly unlocked Stratagem. For Managed Democracy and Super Earth.
