Ever since the K-2 Throwing Knives have been added to Helldivers 2, players have tried them out in various scenarios. They single-handedly renamed the grenades category into “Throwables”, yet have since become a meme weapon. No less, their armour piercing was nerfed, making them even more of a joke. Simply put, players couldn’t justify bringing the knives over any grenade except as a joke. The latest patch didn’t do much to help them, but their buff at least made using them even funnier.
Five. Hundred. Knives!
The only buff that the Throwing Knives got increased their carry size from 8 to a whopping 20. Pair that up with a Supply Pack stratagem and Resupply drops, and you get 500 knives to use per dive. It seems that forges of Super Earth are working overtime to supply the front with so many knives!
It didn’t take long for the community to discover this and bring a whole new slew of memes around the weapon. For example, Shedster_ posted an image that pretty much encapsulates the idea. ThorAway012 instantly had another idea: “How many does one get if they wear the grenade-increasing armor?……please don’t say 22, it would crush my dreams.” It turns out that yes, it does increase them to 22!
Players are still thrown off (pun intended) by the throwing arc of the knives.”Just wasted five trying to hit a single Automaton conscript at 15 metres. Probably a skill issue but I would love to see less arc on the throw. Why do Helldivers throw knives like Steph Curry pulling up at half-court?” lamented one player, with Tsavong117 coming up with solid advice: “Gotta build for knives. Use the armor that increases your throw range by 30%, feels much better. If you wish to knife then you must commit, or you will be nought but the gun-reliant fools screaming of glory while we do the work.”
Eight, twenty, or five hundred – they’re still bad
Even with everything, the K-2 Throwing Knives are still a laughable weapon option. As showcased in CalypsoThePython’s video – they’ll get you overwhelmed quickly. We can’t help but think that a couple of grenades would’ve done a better job. Of course, take it with a grain of salt – the knives aren’t a primary weapon and aren’t designed to take down hordes. But it’s still funny to see just how useless they are. As one commenter said: “He died as he lived. Throwing knives.”
Teriyakiguy has the right idea: “AH please give us alt-fire mode: Stop Time + throw all 20 knives at once.” All things considered, we’ll have to keep our hopes up that the devs will take another look at the knives. Before that happens, we fear they’ll just remain the subject of funny videos and memes in the community.
