Helldivers 2 has amassed quite a following since its release back in February 2024. The players were drawn to this game thanks to intricate storylines, heavily layered sarcasm, and, of course, “big booms”. Everything that would make a great movie, right? Well, during Sony’s CES 2025 press conference, it was announced that Helldivers 2 was getting a movie adaptation.
Sony Announces a Movie Based on Helldivers 2
The announcement of this adaptation was short and sweet. Asad Qizilbash, the Head of Playstation Productions took the stage at the CES 2025 press conference. He stated: “Looking ahead as to what might come next, I’m excited to announce we are working with Sony Pictures on developing a film adaptation of our amazingly popular PlayStation game Helldivers 2”.

Helldivers Share Their Best Ideas
As you might have guessed, Helldivers 2 players had some pretty tall orders for this movie. From plot to dream cast, Helldivers had a lot of opinions about every aspect of this sure-to-be masterpiece.
Starting off hot, Memester156 suggested: “If they give it to Michael Bay then we know we’re about to get the most cinematic explosions in movie history. I’d like Neill Blomkamp to direct it though”.
As for the cast, well, players couldn’t really agree, some wanted unknown actors, while others dreamed of a stellar cast. One player, doublethink_1984, shared their dream casting. They noted: “Jack Black as “Guard Dog”. Danny Devito as Automaton voice”.
Another player, 2Tired2pl, added: “Tom Holland and Timothee Chalamet as The Bugdivers. Oscar Isaac and Pedro Pascal as The Creekdivers. Anya Taylor-Joy as Eagle-1. The Rock as the Democracy Officer. Adam Sandler as John Helldiver”.
As for the plot, true veterans would love the movie to be based on one of the great battles, like Malevelon Creek, Meridia, or Calypso. Some players pointed out that there shouldn’t be just one protagonist. But, the majority of Helldivers would adore it if the movie managed to keep that amazing balance where you aren’t even sure if you are the good guy or the bad guy.
Looking at some of Sony’s previous adaptations, like The Last of Us, we are sure they’ll do a great job with Helldivers 2. So, be patient, and give them time to cook.
