Helldivers 2 players lament that their teammates won’t help with opening bunkers

Cooperation is a major part of the gameplay loop of Helldivers 2. While combat cooperation and coordination are important and play the biggest part, small gestures outside of that are just as vital. Things like pre-positioning before engagement, lining up stratagems together, completing objectives in a timely manner, and last but not least – opening those two-man blast doors. Is it too much to ask for your teammate to come push a button with you – there are often really nice goodies inside!

Why do some players refuse to help with bunkers?

One fellow Helldiver on Reddit ran into the same issue. ElCharroCalaca had a dive in which players were all too happy to hit POIs, but simply refused to help with opening the bunkers: ”I just ran a game where the other 2 divers ignored me for the whole game after I asked to open a bunker. They went for every single other POI besides that one, even though I didn’t stay in place and helped finish the mission.”

Even worse, this wasn’t the first time they’ve seen this. We can agree, as it’s been a problem too often for us when playing with randoms too: “It’s not even the first time that something like this has happened to me, I’ve had a lot of other games where no one seems to be interested in opening bunkers at all. I get that sometimes the things inside are not worth walking across the map but you can clip your face inside to make sure it is. I also understand when someone just wants to finish the mission and call it a day but if it is like that you can just say so instead of ignoring someone just for the sake of it. What’s your opinion on this?”

The most frustrating part is that those bunkers often have a higher chance of holding Super Credits and Medals, making them very worthwhile to get. Green-Pixel states as much too: “People don’t want free Super Credits.”, with Empress_Draconis_ adding: “I feel like people forget about Super Credits half the time, it would be cool to maybe have them as a reward for an MO.”

MerkoITA ran into the same problem, though more often with low-level divers: “Perhaps people do not understand that is usually where the most valuable resources are. Several times I stand near the vaults, ask in chat and put the pin, but no one moves, especially low-level people.” Ironically, in our experience, it’s the higher-level divers who ignore bunkers. They just want to blaze through the mission and get to the next one. We can respect that, efficiency is important after all. But opening and looting those bunkers won’t take more than a few seconds. What’s your take? Do you stop to get those two-man bunkers open?
