There have been many winners following the latest patch for Helldivers 2, which saw a huge part of our arsenal buffed. From deadlier assault rifles to more effective energy weapons, to mention just a few, there’s a lot to test and play with. It’s like a whole new game now, with the community scrambling to try out many forgotten weapons. Yet according to many players, one grenade has risen to the top – the previously much-maligned Thermite Grenade.

“It feels like an actual anti-tank grenade now”

Here’s the scoop  – the Thermite went from measly 100 damage to whopping 2000 with the new update. It ignites faster and pops off faster too. The only downside is that you can now carry three of them instead of four. With so much damage to play with, there’s no need to add armor penetration – the number does it all for you. It’s no wonder that players have fallen in love with it.

“Seeing the increase to 2000 I thought I understood why devs kept talking about how much fun they had with Thermite Grenade in their testing builds. Then I ran a game with them tossed my three grenades to a Tower Cannon, a bot fabricator and a Hulk. When all three detonated in a massive firework explosion, then I truly understood what they meant.” commented AdOnly9012 on Reddit. And that perfectly encapsulates how much devastating the new Thermite is now.

Thermite Grenade is now tailor-made to bring down heavies

Another player who goes by -_-Air-_-, showcased the explosive potential it brings. In a video showcase, they tossed three at an oncoming Bile Titan. One whiffed, missing the brute, but two stuck on its back. Suffice it to say, the monstrosity exploded with a satisfying crunch. We can only imagine what it can do to Automaton tanks now – and we can’t wait to try!

This changes the game in many ways. Now, you really don’t want to waste your Thermites to deal with small packs. It’s a waste of its damage potential, and its radius of only 3 meters is highly inefficient for that task. Instead, it was turned into the true anti-tank, dealing with damage sponges and making a dent in their health bars. And as we’ve seen, if you manage to stick a couple, they can outright bring them down by themselves. Of course, it remains to be seen how they perform at even higher difficulties, but the future looks bright for the Thermite Grenade. We can safely say that they’re close to an S-tier grenade now. Have you tried them and do you believe they’ll become the new meta throwable?
