It’s been a while since the last patch dropped, and even longer since the last “big thing” happened. While the Helldivers 2 community has been surprisingly patient, some players are slowly becoming salty because of all the teasing of new content but never actually getting a patch.
It’s Been Three Weeks Without a Patch for Helldivers 2
As you probably know, the devs have been constantly teasing some new content for several weeks. In an interview given in mid-November, the CCO of Arrowhead, Pilestedt, said that three big things were coming. That was probably the start of the hype in the community.
Ever since then, there have been some very faint hints, mostly coming from Community Managers on Discord. They never revealed what or when was coming, they just confirmed that something was in the works, over and over again.
Then, some players noticed the Illuminate mentioned in the files on Steamdb. This started a huge craze in the community. Players were sure that the Illuminate were coming. It didn’t help that various leaks showed off a Special Event and more of the Illuminate-related content. Most recently, the devs dropped a note about the black hole in the game. Some players pointed out that this was becoming too much.
However, it does seem like something big is happening. If you check out the Depots on Steamdb, you’ll see a lot of branches are being worked on. However, in the sea of regularly named files, like studio_playtest, release_1_latest, etc, there was one that captured the attention of Helldivers. One branch was named pineapple_soup_is_delicious. Now, what could that be about?
Players offered their best guesses. FurnaceDiver suggested the worst-case scenario. This player noted: “Oh no guys… Pineapple Soup Is Delicious. P.S.I.D. PlayStation IDentification. SWEET LIBERTY, DON’T LET IT BE SO”. Other players recognized this as just another tease. Traumatic_Tomato said: “Of course, they know we read these. Those bastards are just teasing us”.
Helldivers Can’t Stand the Teasing for Much Longer
Even though these small hints were quite fun in the beginning, not getting a patch for several weeks made some Helldivers 2 players grow tired of the teasing. Many players asked for something more concrete that they could look forward to.
One Discord user questioned the entire situation. They stated: “It’s been 22 days without an update to the game. Almost a month since the last “major content drop” (the half-baked DSS.) At some point, you have to ask if being this slow is deliberate”.
Another Discord user added: “I think people just get fed up about not knowing exactly what is going to come next and feeling like the devs are keeping us in the dark. When, obviously, that’s not entirely the case. Especially when there are things you cannot talk about for the sake of excitement or future announcements, etc”.
We suppose that not giving an exact timeline, or revealing what’s coming gives the devs some breathing space. Or they are just working on a Stealth Warbond. For the time being, we’ll have to trust them blindly, and, hopefully, they’ll deliver. For Liberty and Super Earth.
