It’s always great to have something to celebrate. After Liberty Day, players are looking forward to the next big date in their calendars, February 8, 2025. The first anniversary of Helldivers 2 is months away, but devoted players already know what they want to receive as a present – a saber, of course.
The Saber Would Be a Wonderful Anniversary Gift
As you know, all Helldivers received the Constitution for Liberty Day, and obviously, they loved the idea of an archaic weapon. So, as it often happens, the players expressed their wishes on social media.
One player, Yurishenko94 made a plea: “Arrowhead, is this possible for the game’s first anniversary? (thanks for the 2124 Constitution)”. Alongside they posted a picture of a Helldiver mid-fight, carrying a weapon reminiscent of the XVI-century Hungarian Saber.
Now, it’s important to note just how excited the Helldivers 2 community was by the sheer idea of a saber. At the time of writing this article, it’s been mere hours since the OP made this request, however, their post has more than 2,7 thousand upvotes. This only goes to show how much the players crave a melee weapon. Of course, players readily quoted the famous Fighting Jack Churchill: “Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed”.
Helldivers Share All the Ways They’d Use the Saber
Obviously, Helldivers had to explain just how crucial this melee weapon would be in their missions. LemonySniket stated: “When storming large bases, it’s very common to run into regular Automatons at point-blank range. My guys and I have gotten used to kicking them in the teeth with the butt of a rifle, instead of wasting ammunition that could be shoved into a possible devastator in front of us. If I had a saber, it would be great in these situations”,
The bugdivers would also benefit from this addition. Kommisar_Kyn explained: “It’s also an absolute clutch way of dealing with Stalkers, Hunters, and Jump Jet raiders. A quick bop will completely stop their attacks. And in the case of jump raiders, melee kills don’t make them asplode”.
If you are a Space Marine 2 fan, you’re already thinking about how great it would be for these two games to be connected positively, instead of being connected by common nerfs. Also, Saber is the name of the publisher of Space Marine 2, a fun fact that many Helldivers pointed out. PathsOfRadiance raved: “Need this and the upcoming Plasma Pistol for true Warhammer shenanigans”.
Truth be told, we’re all for a Saber. However, keep in mind that adding a melee weapon like this one takes a lot of hard work. So, if the devs decide to make the Helldivers’ dreams come true, it might take a while. Hopefully, they will, and since the Helldivers 2 anniversary is still months away, they might have just enough time to make the saber come true. For Liberty and Super Earth.
