They are back! The dreaded third enemy faction returned after being banished for a hundred years. Helldivers 2 players were in the middle of another Major Order when the Illuminate attacked. Well, we guess it’s time to fry some Squids!
Emergency Major Order Interupts all Operations
On the evening of December 12, Helldivers received an urgent update. The Major Order was aborted, as a bigger threat appeared. Helldivers who were already tired of waiting for an update were caught by surprise.
Then came an announcement on Discord, the Omens of Tyranny update was live. The devs noted: “The newest major update for HELLDIVERS 2, Omens of Tyranny, featuring the return of the Illuminate faction, is now live! High Command has ordered all Helldivers to report to their Super Destroyers – it’s time to give these squids hell”.
So, for the first Major Order against the Illuminate, Helldivers 2 players have to defend Calypso, the invaded planet, against one attack from the Illuminate. At the time of writing this article, the players had around 2 days and 16 hours left. Now, don’t forget, you’ll be fighting in the urban environment, and Helldivers finally got a vehicle.
Helldivers 2 Players Return to Face the Illuminate
The return of the Illuminate and the new Major Order truly shook up the Helldivers 2 community. According to Steamdb, during the last month, the maximum number of players was around 50k, with a 30k average. Well, after the latest update, that number skyrocketed to around 133k players, playing via Steam only. In other words – we are so back.
Briggyboii noted: “I was in the middle of a show when the emergency alert pinged my phone, I paced around the living room while the update installed and dropped as soon as I could. Nothing could’ve prepared me for the hoards of voteless in the ruined streets”.
Of course, many players were quite worried that this MO was doomed from the very start. Ashamed_Low7214 stated: “I’mma be honest fellow divers, I expect us to lose this MO. This new enemy is fun to fight, but canonically this is the return of a dangerous foe. I very much so doubt that we would defeat them in our very first attempt on one planet”.
