Have you ever tried going into the water in Helldivers 2? You died pretty much instantly, right? Well, it turns out it isn’t just a silly mechanic, but a well-thought-out detail. If you sat down and calculated the weight of your Helldivers 2 protagonist, you’d understand why Helldivers sink like rocks.
How Much Weight Does an Average Helldiver Have to Carry?
Well, one player, SacrificialLam, did the math and came up with a breath-taking number. According to this player, an average Helldiver, with all of their equipment, weighs around 1000 pounds, or just shy of half a ton.
Now, we are no experts, so we can’t vouch that all the numbers are correct, but they do add up quickly. The OP suggested bringing the Liberator, the Peacemaker, the HMG, and, of course, a Supply Pack.
According to the OP, the Liberator would come up to around 21 pounds. That’s around 11 pounds of ammo and another 10 pounds for the Liberator itself. The Peacemaker is even lighter than that, coming up to a 7 pounds total. The ammo would be only around 2 pounds, while this sidearm should be around 5 pounds on its own.
Now, for the HMG. According to the OP, this is where the equipment gets really heavy. The HMG on its own probably weighs around 30-40 pounds. The ammo is a whole other story. Three 50-pound magazines mean that the ammo only is around 150 pounds. In total, that comes to around 185 pounds.
Finally, the Supply Pack is what pulls you to the bottom. The OP noted: “The supply pack has 4 ammo packs each restocking all the ammo in all 3 guns meaning each pack weighs roughly 113 pounds in EACH AMMO PACK, and there is FOUR, MEANING THE SUPPLY PACK ALONE WEIGHS 452 POUNDS”. Count in the very heavy metal carrying case, which brings up the total to 502 pounds.
So far we have the Liberator at 21, the Peacemaker at 7, the HMG at 185, and the Supply Pack at 502 pounds. That totals to 715 pounds. Add in the armor at around 100 pounds, that’s 815 pounds. Also, let’s not forget about the weight of the poor Helldivers carrying all of this. The OP suggested the average weight of a person is between 180 and 200 pounds, so the final number is around 1000 pounds or around 450kg.
Helldivers 2 Players Love Their Stims for a Reason
The staggering weight of an average Helldivers 2 protagonist surprised many players. It became clear that the obviously non-addictive Stims were actually way more important than the players thought. We can’t even imagine the state of poor Helldivers’ knees.
Maybe gravity helps out the players a bit? Given the way players ragdoll, maybe it truly helps out the players with the weight. Still, that would probably be visible in the way Helldivers move, or by seeing how fast something falls. In our experience, all the movements look quite similar to those on our home planet.
