New Helldivers 2 Warbond, Chemical Agents, turns players into bug exterminators

The latest Premium Warbond has landed in Helldivers 2 and we’re gassed about it! Chemical Agents is the sixth Warbond added to the game, and similar to some previous ones, comes with a unifying theme. This time, it’s all about poison gas, bug spray, and biohazard.

Chemical Agents brings the much-needed bug spray to the galactic war

This Warbond revolves around dealing toxic damage, primarily aimed at combating Terminids. It offers two Stratagem permits, the first of their kind in the game. Essentially, they allow you to bring those Stratagems to your ship’s armory, providing variants to existing ones. The first one is the Steriliser, which functions as a flamethrower variant. Except that instead of flames, it sprays the bugs like a big can of Raid. Similarly, there’s the Dog Breath variant for the trusty Guard Dog, once again equipped with a poison gas spray.

Interestingly, this Warbond doesn’t come with any primary weapons to speak of. Instead, there’s the P-11 Stim Pistol slotting into secondaries. If you suffer from friendly fire syndrome, this one’s for you. With this, you can shoot your allies to your heart’s content, while providing them with a little bit of healing with each shot. It remains to be seen if you can heal your enemies with it too – that would open up a whole new world of trolling.

Next up, there’s the G-4 Gas Grenade, which does exactly what you’d think – emits poison gas after counting down its 2.9-second fuse. To complement the theme, there are new skins for your vehicles, painting them a mustard-yellow. You can dress up your Exosuit, Hellpod, and Pelican-1 and all they’re missing are biohazard signs. It would’ve been great to also have a drop-pod stratagem that emits poison gas upon landing, similar to the one from Freedom’s Flame, though we know it wouldn’t have been efficient. Just in line with the theme.

Of course, the Warbond also features a few other cosmetics, like the hilarious new “Pull my finger” emote, and the “Ew!” victory pose. Then there are new player cards, as well as the new title, Expert Exterminator. The Warbond also provides two nodes of 100 Super Credits each.

Last but not least, there are the two new armor sets, comprised of a helmet, armor, and cape. They come in light and medium variants, AF-50 Noxious Ranger and AF-02 Haz-Master. They both come with the new armor perk Advanced Filtration, which gives you 80% resistance to all the gas you’ll be spewing. We particularly liked the Haz-Master’s design, which is obviously reminiscent of the Hazmat suit. It would be amazing to see a full cleanup crew dressed up in these!

Sneaky Superstore armor variant

On the back of the Chemical Agents Warbond, Arrowhead released a special armor to the premium Superstore as well. Called AF-91 Field Chemist, it’s a set of medium armor that comes with the same perk as the ones in the new Warbond. However, it’s the design that caught my eye. It is sneakily similar to the Death Korps of Krieg army from the Warhammer 40k universe, and I have to admit – I just had to get it for that reason alone. Now all we need is a shovel, and the cosplay will be complete.

How does Chemical Agents compare to others?

While the contents of the new Warbond are highly specialized for dealing with Terminids, it remains to be seen just how effective they prove to be. We think it was a good choice not to include any primaries with this one, as the recent patch already overhauled so many of the existing ones. With that said, while the theme is amazing and looks fun, gas weapons haven’t been that effective in the past. We’ll have to test the new offerings before coming to a more concrete conclusion, but for now, this is a Warbond you’d get for the theme and not because it provides any game-breaking items.
