“Money Money Money” Helldivers 2 Community Ponders the Lore Reason for the Time Limit on the Missions

Is it really all about the money? It’s impossible that the prosperous Super Earth has such a tight budget, right? Especially when it comes to Helldivers, the greatest heroes to grace the galaxy. Well, um, maybe. Have you ever wondered why do the missions in Helldivers 2 have a time limit? Why can’t Helldivers spread Managed Democracy for more than 40 minutes at a time?

Why Are Helldivers 2 Players Always In a Hurry to Finish Missions?

Recently, there has been a lot of talk in the Helldivers 2 community about the length of the missions. A lot can be done in 40 minutes, but if the Helldivers were allowed to stay on a plane indefinitely, they could probably achieve a lot more. So, why did Super Earth put a limit on the missions?

Let’s start off with some more creative theories! One player, Landwaster1066, suggested: “They broadcast missions back on Super Earth. 40 min plus commercials works well for network TV”. Now, let’s get real, we’d watch this show. Imagine snuggling up in a blanket, with a bucket of popcorn on your lap, watching Super Earth’s special forces squish bugs on a planet far, far away. A perfect night in! Truth be told, we do that on Earth, but we mainly watch our favorite content creators.

Some players suggested that due to being in cryosleep, Helldivers couldn’t function for more than 40 minutes at a time. EasyRhino75 stated: “It’s tied to the attention span of an average Helldiver. Any longer and we’d start eating Super crayons”. We are no scientists, but this seems plausible, right?

The Most Plausible Reason for the Time Limit

Well, as fun (and horrifying) as some of these ideas were, there are some explanations that are simply more lore-friendly. As it turns out, the missions in Helldivers 2 probably have a time limit, because of… the money. Well, there are several factors, but it all boils down to having to stay inside a certain budget.

Skiepher explained: “Logistics really. Kinda like in IRL military, each mission is only given a certain amount budget, time frame, resource, etc. Any further will be wasteful or too resource intensive. In HD2 case, could be that the Super Destroyers only have that amount of fuel and/or resource to power itself at Low Orbit for that time depending on the mission type”.

Also, many players suggested the Super Destroyer was the main reason. Zyvlyn noted: “The reason they give you in the briefing is that 40 minutes is how long the super destroyer is authorized to stay in low orbit.  Any longer is too risky to be worth it and anyone still on the planet is abandoned”.

What do you think? Truth be told, we’ve seen plenty of undemocratic suggestions, some even suggested Super Earth was the bad guy since they left Helldivers behind. It seems that the players have once again reached that stage where they start to question what they are doing. We’d say it’s high time for a new update. In the meantime, watch out for that pesky Predator strain, and join us on the front. For Liberty and Super Earth.
