It really is true that you can make friends in the most unexpected places! When the Helldivers 2 players entered the Gloom for the second time, no one thought they would find a devoted bug that could be called a friend. However, believe it or not, Scavengers and Helldivers can sometimes be buddies.
How to Get Your Own Bug Friend?
As it turns out, it’s incredibly easy! Reportedly, all you have to do is to salute a Scavenger (the salute is quite powerful!). Once you’ve done so, the bug you’ve saluted will stay by your side, but it won’t attack you. It’ll just chill there and follow you around. But, for some reason, this seemingly works only in the Gloom.
One player, Bubingus-Hub, revealed this in a YouTube video that has since become viral in the Helldivers 2 community. In it, you can see a li’l Scavenger following around a Helldiver who saluted it. Unfortunately for this bug, it met its maker once it was hit by a Bile Titan aiming for the Helldiver.
Helldivers Are Divided Over Having a Bug for a Friend
Obviously, Helldivers loved the video, and many testified that they did the same. Some were horrified by this kind of undemocratic behaviour. However, many players were quite sad over what happened to OP’s Scavenger buddy.
One player noted: “He did the most profound damage any bug could do to a helldiver. He broke his heart”. Another player added: “This bug was on the brink of joining the democratic side of the war, then his bug brethren murdered him. Truly, these tyrannids are monsters”.
Funnily enough, some players pointed out an interesting dynamic. They suggested that the Bile Titans were the Terminids’ Democracy Officers. Finally, JustaDood857, noted: “Glad to see mankind’s overwhelming power to pet anything, has also been factored into Helldivers”.
Now, according to some Helldivers 2 players, you can have more than one bug friend in the Gloom. Supposedly, you can have an army of Scavengers following you around, acting as a shield of sorts.
Honestly, this mechanic reminds us of that one elusive bot that the players encounter occasionally. We are kinda happy that we can now have a bug friend, as well. However, since the Gloom MO is over, Helldivers will have to wait a while to befriend these bugs again. In the meantime, would you join us for a stealth challenge? For Liberty and Super Earth.
