Generally speaking, being a part of a community is important. Humans are social beings, and from a very young age, we seek ways to belong in society. Being surrounded by people who share your beliefs, or have common goals, reassures us of our own beliefs. Oftentimes, people who think similarly to you will be able to offer you the best support. The sense of belonging is also quite beneficial to the majority of people. As it turns out, gaming communities can provide you with much more than just gaming tips. We’ve said it before, and we’ll gladly say it again, Helldivers 2 community is one of the best gaming communities out there. Many Helldivers wholeheartedly agree as they share how big of an impact this has had on their lives.
A Player Shares How Being a Part of Helldivers 2 Helped Them
Recently, a Helldiver took to Reddit to explain how much of an impact this game had on them. According to Kevin0709_, Helldivers 2 made them feel significant. Now, we all enjoy that feeling, as it means we contribute to something bigger than ourselves.
The OP downplayed this by saying that this sounded sad, and most likely was sad. Still, the OP noted: “But being a part of something this big- the battles I’m a part of, big and small, mean something. Maybe not to anyone outside of the community, but they mean something. I’m proud to be a Helldiver, to be making a difference”.
In our book, it doesn’t, nor should it sound sad. ReisysV noted: “Nothing wrong with finding meaning in what you find meaning in. Video games got me through some rough times in my life and if it helps it’s not stupid”.
A Gaming Community Can Have a Real-Life Impact
Now, sure, being a part of a community, such as the Helldivers 2 one, can have an impact on one’s personal life. However, it can have a much larger impact. Back in June 2024, Helldivers received a Major Order that made them choose between fighting to get the AT mines or saving children, at the time this was referred to as the trolley problem.
As it turned out, it wasn’t a problem at all. Helldivers 2 community chose to save the children without even giving it a second thought. After the MO was done, and the children were saved, Pilestedt, the CCO of Arrowhead, announced that Arrowhead had made a donation to celebrate Helldivers’ efforts.
One player, vicegt, noted: “Never forget the real children we helped save after giving up the anti-tank mines for the 3rd time”. Furthermore, this act of kindness inspired many Helldivers to make donations on their own.
Finally, TransientMemory concluded: “Community matters. Fraternity matters. These things aren’t just part of a videogame, they’re a part of being human. Gather strength from them to continue facing your own challenges in real life”.
So, dear Helldiver, remember this whenever you need support. You can always count on your fellow Helldivers. Speaking of, botdivers could use some help on Martale, we’ll meet you there! For Liberty and Super Earth.
