“It Wasn’t Just the Devs” Helldivers 2 Community Regrets Their Past Reactions

The Helldivers 2 community has been through a lot in the past month or so. Now, with the promising update and a new Warbond just around the corner, the player base is feeling more and more optimistic. So much so, that many Helldivers 2 players admitted to having regrets for how they treated the developers and feeling sorry for their previous reactions.

Helldivers 2 Players Went Through a Lot

As you probably know, there was a huge backlash after the Escalation of Freedom update and the unfortunate patch that was supposed to fix all the nerfs. Of course, it’s understandable that the players had lots of feelings, but some of them chose inappropriate ways to express them, usually by insulting the developers directly.

Other players took matters into their own hands and created an unusual new faction, the Chaosdivers, which terrorized the community even more. All of this combined caused lots of players to take a break due to severe burnout. Due to this, and some other factors, the number of players dropped severely. The remaining Helldivers reflected on the way they handled all of these changes and some of them truly regretted their actions.

One player, vlkr, noted: “Mob here has no chill on the small dev team that got way more than they ever planned to get. Everybody just keeps expecting them to pump content like Activision makes skins for CoD”.

Some players, like WeeaboosDogma, reminded the community that they had no right to treat the devs the way they did. This player stated: “Being correct doesn’t mean you can be bats**t insane and make personal attacks to the developers even if it’s “by proxy” and not individually directed”.

Some Helldivers Have No Regrets, as Their Actions Triggered Developers’ Reactions

Obviously, there is a line between constructive criticism and just blatant insults. Some Helldivers 2 players still claim they have no regrets and that showing your emotions should be the way to go, no matter how strong the reactions might be.

One player, wifinotworking, said: “Authentic display of feelings even when they are negative will always trump a false positivity for the sake of being nice and dandy”. We’d say sure, be realistic, but find a way to communicate your feelings.

Feedback is essential for any game’s development, but there is no need to take a bad patch personally. Inner_Toe_1646 stated: “Some people go a little far(it’s the internet), but generally it was warranted. And now we are getting positive changes because of our very loud negative feedback”.

Unless the developers address this, we have no way of knowing what made them change their approach. However, our money is on rational constructive criticism, rather than thinly veiled threats and salty insults. The loudest comments aren’t necessarily the most helpful ones, and we are extremely glad that this community is becoming aware of that.
