On October 15, the devs dropped the patch that concluded their 60-day deadline to “fix” the game. The first reviews are extremely positive, as the players were quite overwhelmed by the almost excessive number of buffs. However, some Helldivers 2 players began questioning some of the changes made to weapons, particularly the PLAS-101 Purifier.
The Latest Helldivers 2 Patch Buffed the PLAS-101 Purifier
So, let’s go through all of the changes listed in the patch notes. First of all: “Projectiles can now be charged up with a damage multiplier”. The minimum charge (0.1 sec) gives a 50% damage multiplier, while the maximum charge (1 sec) gives a 100% multiplier.
The devs gave some serious buffs to maximum charge projectiles. Their damage was doubled (100 to 200), as well as their durable damage (50 to 100), and explosion damage (150 to 300).
The devs added: “The explosion doesn’t scale, but a fully charged shot has a different explosion effect.” The maximum charge now has an inner radius of 2,9m and an outer radius of 3m. In contrast, The minimum charge has an inner radius of 1m, an outer radius of 2m, and the explosion damage is 75.
Now, it might be difficult to visualize these changes. We’d say that the best way to go through patch notes is to simply start the game and try out the changes on your own. Words on the screen sometimes can’t depict the real feel. Well, the players did that and they were left speechless.
Helldivers Are Confused by the Changes
Believe it or not, the Helldivers 2 players can’t agree if these changes broke the Purifier or if they just made it useful. Many players claim that this weapon is now way overpowered. You see, the fire rate is reportedly 1000 rpm. If you do the math, it should be 600 rpm (0,1s for the minimum charge x 10 x 60). A_Newer_Guy noted: “That’s broken in the sense it’s actually broken, not OP broken. Someone forgot to limit the rate of fire while coding it”.
However, some players disagreed with this assessment. BotDiver99 stated: “Let’s stop this right here. It’s not broken. Stop asking for nerfs and then complaining when it gets nerfed. Enjoy the gun and keep helldiving”.
Another player, SpeedyAzi, added: “Tbh, spamming it isn’t that worth it. The damage of a single tap is around the same as a Scorcher and you’ll waste rounds. If you like spammy, Scorcher is the one. The Purifier truly destroys when charged fully up like a Railgun”.
So, it seems that different players have completely opposing experiences with the Purifier. How about you? Have you tried it out since the patch? If you haven’t, you’ll have an opportunity soon enough, especially because two more days are left until the end of Major Order, and you know those pesky bugs won’t let us win without a fight. For Liberty and Super Earth.
