Everyone knows how important sound and music are for a game. Unfortunately, everyone also knows that the heavies in this game are practically ninjas. So, naturally, Helldivers 2 players started using the sounds mods to improve their experience. However, one should carefully choose the mods, as some might crash your game or even get you banned.
Helldivers Explain Why They Use Sounds Mods, And Suggest Their Favorites
Some players love to make playlists, disable the in-game audio, and just rock out and kill the enemies they stumble upon. And, that’s perfectly fine, therapeutic even. However, the majority of players, especially the ghostdivers, love using the environmental cues while they play.
Unfortunately, some heavies, such as the Chargers, Berserkers, and others, can sometimes be so sneaky that you don’t even know what hit you before it’s way too late. Hendrick noted: “I have to be on top of a BT to hear it step. Tanks on the bot front make zero sound when driving”.
So, many players turn to the sounds mods for some help. SES Stallion of Twilight shared: “I installed a sound rebalancing mod just so I could actually hear heavies better. I can hear Berserker chainsaw revving too”.
As for which sounds mods they preferred, many Helldivers 2 players suggested the same couple of mods. John Liberty noted: “Many people, including myself, suffer from silent Chargers running you over. If you’re on PC, you can install a sound mixing mod on Nexus to mitigate the issue”.
The two most recommended mods are Heavy Units Remastered – 2.4 and Chaff Units Remastered – 2.6. The descriptions read: “Addresses the poor mixing and balance of Helldivers 2’s heaviest Units / various chaff units, fodder enemies if you will. Enhancing their audio so you can hear the wonderous work of AH’s sound team”.
Should You Be Using Any Mods?
Obviously, some mods can improve your experience, but they come with some risks. Basically, if the anti-cheat software picks up on the mod, you could get banned. B Vitamin, one of the Arrowhead devs, addressed this several months ago.
This dev noted: “Arrowhead has not released any official statement regarding the use of mods. We don’t explicitly allow them, nor have we said that you’re forbidden to use them. We don’t give support for them, or endorse their use. If mod users have any problems resulting from modifying game files, up to and including bans caused by triggering our anti-cheat, we will not be able to help them. I don’t know if you will face any bans for your use of mods, as we do not test the game with modifications to game files installed. Use of mods is done entirely at your own risk, and if anything happens, support can’t unban you”.
Furthermore, getting banned might not be your only concern. Dyno bot has been posting a template for anyone asking for help, and as of March 18, a note was added to it. It reads: “As of the March 18th update, all visual mods and some sounds mods are crashing the game. Many mods persist through game reinstalls and file verifies, and even disabling them in HD2MM won’t necessarily remove them”.
The good news is that the aforementioned mods haven’t caused any trouble, at least not yet. So, if you are willing to risk it, try them out. Of course, whether you use mods or not, it’s time to spread some Managed Democracy for the latest Major Order. We’ll meet you on Acamar IV! For Liberty and Super Earth.
