There’s been a huge development with the current Major Order. As you probably know, Helldivers are choosing their favorite machine gun in this MO. The first machine gun that reaches 500 million killed bugs would be crowned as the best one. However, after two days of trying, the players didn’t manage to make a dent in that number with any of the machine guns. Rumors began swirling through the Helldivers 2 community that the Major Order was meant to fail, but the devs stepped in and made a huge change.
Developers Updated the Major Order Goals
On November 27, devoted Helldivers received a Major Order update that might make it doable after all. The devs announced that the players needed to kill 50 million bugs in order for their weapon to “win”. That’s 10% of the original number.
The update read: “The Ministry of Defense Office of Weapon Efficacy has provided an update to its data
collection request: A misplaced decimal led to an erroneously high volume of data to be requested. The required number of kills has been reduced to account for this error. Following the conclusion of the current review, the Office of Weapon Efficacy has ordered a full review of its decimal placement procedures”.
Now, 50 million is a way more realistic goal. At the time of writing this article, it’s been almost two days since the MO started. The MG-43 Machine Gun is in the lead, with almost 25 million bugs killed with it. If the goal was still 500 million, Helldivers would never reach it in time.
Helldivers 2 Players Had Higher Expectations of This Major Order
If you haven’t kept up with the Helldivers 2 community during this Major Order, you might be surprised to learn that some players were extremely disappointed by this change. You see, there was a theory that the devs issued an impossible MO on purpose so that once the players had failed it, the devs could give them a brand-new machine gun.
Smart_Contract7575 explained: “Based on the rate numbers have been going up, I think AH made this MO impossible to finish. I think that this was intentional, and AH is going to come out and say “After efficacy review, we determined Helldivers don’t have sufficient MG weaponry to deal with threats, so here’s another MG”. I hope it’s the MGX-42 “.
This theory received hundreds of upvotes and many Helldivers tried to guess what they’d get once they failed the MO. Starving for more new content, the players were truly hyped by this idea. So, when the MO was updated, many Helldivers were deeply disappointed.
Dizzy-Chemical-8771 noted: “Cool that they updated it. But, I guess this confirms this wasn’t a purposely unwinnable MO to give a lore reason as to why High Command would issue us backpack-fed machine guns or something similar after “lackluster” performance with the ones we have available”.
Unfortunately, there is more than enough time for Helldivers to fulfill one of the MO goals. So, Helldivers should adjust their expectations for this Major Order and just enjoy squishing some bugs. New content is coming at some point, we all just need to be patient. For Liberty and Super Earth.
