Everyone loves an immersive game, right? Sometimes, after an especially long day, there is nothing more soothing and relaxing than starting up your favorite game and goofing off with your teammates. Even though some might disagree, the majority of players love roleplaying in Helldivers 2. However, full roleplay can sometimes go sideways, so is there a way you can still enjoy yourself?

What Is Too Much for Helldivers 2 Players?

Players tried to find the invisible line one shouldn’t cross while roleplaying. While that might be an impossible feat, they did come to a consensus. Some light roleplay is completely acceptable, even desired, according to the majority of players.

StockUser42 stated: “This whole game is based on light role play. Had a guy drop in last night, with a Matthew Mcougnahey-esque drawl go “Eeeeeeeeeess ee ess Fist of Family Values, deploying rrrrrrrrreinforcements to your location”. Awesome”.

Now, if you are roleplaying, try to still treat the other players as equals. One player, Len_died_again, noted: “Some light roleplay is always fun. Just don’t go bossing others if you’re host, and respect them if they don’t want to join in”.

YoungWolfie added: “Once you start “go here do this, xyz” and start yapping, I go full Viper Commando, chuck a stun at you, disappear and all you’ll see is Shrieker Nest destroyed, Stalker Nest destroyed, Mortar Emcampent destroyed for the rest of the mission. And the occasional cross-map BT snipe or dropship down”.

Experienced roleplayers know not to cross this line, but, if you are just starting out, you might unintentionally get carried away. And, remember, it’s important to enjoy yourself, but it’s also important to allow others to enjoy themselves. So, be mindful and respect others’ boundaries and you’re good to go.

Players Offer Examples of Roleplaying Done Well

If you don’t have a lot of experience roleplaying in Helldivers 2, or in any other game, you might feel uncomfortable even trying. We can safely say that there is nothing to worry about. If you feel awkward, but think roleplay might be something you’d enjoy, try easing into it. Many players suggest starting in the text chat, rather than on the mic.

RallyPointAlpha noted: “I love roleplaying and do it frequently! I exclusively RP over text chat as it’s easy to ignore if you’re not into it and doesn’t squelch important, mission-critical voice comms. Of the people actually paying attention to text chat, maybe a third responds. I don’t recall a single person hating it or complaining about it. Overall, very well received and some even play along”.

As for what you could say, well, practice makes perfect. Also, the more you play, the more phrases and terms you’ll learn, so it all comes with experience. Some players gladly shared their favorite things to say. Scary_Stuff_6687 said: “The best roleplay I can give you is some text chat about doing this for democracy. My family is waiting for me back home, and I am needed in another front when I need to leave”.

Another player, grajuicy, shared: “Droppin’ a quick “sweet liberty…” when seeing a big Bile Titan rise from the ground always gets a chuckle out of people. I also love saying that they’ll build statues of us in Super Earth as we extract. Gets spirits up and I’ve found it encourages randoms to stay in the lobby to finish the op instead of leaving every mission”.

So, start simple, pick up your Senator, join a game, and enjoy yourself. We promise it’ll be great and your teammates will love it. After all, we’re all in this together, for Liberty and Super Earth.
