Months into the Gloom storyline, it’s finally time to see what’s happening in that enormous spore cloud. That’s right, the first-ever Gloom Research Expedition is on its way! Helldivers 2 players will get to fight some new bugs, as well as try out some mission types modified especially for the Gloom.
What Are the Gloom Mission Types?
New content is always exciting! There are six “new” mission types specifically tailored for the Gloom. As far as we can tell, these missions have all previously been in the game in some format, although some were a bit modified. Also, some of these have been leaked previously, so there are no huge surprises here. So, let’s see what Helldivers will be doing in the Gloom.
First up, Helldivers will get to Collect Gloom Spore Readings. In this mission, players will use the special LiDAR towers to gather Gloom spore data and upload it from a communication relay. Another mission is named Extract Research Probe Data. Helldivers will have to find all the probes that were sent into the Gloom and extract their research data.
Next up, Helldivers have a blitz mission, Secure Research Site. For this one, they have to clear the area of bug nests, so that the research specialists can do their job. In a mission named Chart Terminid Tunnels, Helldivers will get to use Seismic Probes to, obviously, chart the tunnel networks in the area.
The Collect Meteorological Data mission will send Helldivers to secure the black box from a crashed aircraft. Then, they’ll transmit the collected weather data off-planet. Finally, the players will have to extract samples of oil previously exposed to the Gloom, in the Collect Gloom-Infused Oil mission.
Helldivers Happily Venture Into the Gloom
As it was expected, Helldivers 2 players could hardly wait to explore the Gloom, and the adjusted mission types were just a bonus. Still, players gladly praised the devs for thinking of every little detail.
Mother_Ad3988 noted: “Some might be re-skins and taken from illuminate missions, but new content is always a blessing”. Far_Advertising1005 added: “I’d love if they reskinned missions 50x over, anything for a bit of extra lore fluff”.
The one mission that gained a lot of attention was Chart Terminid Tunnels. As you probably know, for a while now, players have been asking for some underground/cave missions. Maybe the devs will deliver soon.
However, for the time being, this community already has a lot on its plate. It’s of utmost importance that all Helldivers unite and stop the Meridian Singularity. To do so, we have to take the current Major Order seriously. So, we’ll meet you on Fori Prime. For Liberty and Super Earth.
